Topic: So what is the point of reviving old threads?

Honestly I have been noticing this thread happening alot here lately and I am not talking about a thread six months old. What I am talking about is a thread from 2009. Really? What is the point? I am sure that whatever question the OP was asking is solved by now and if not I am pretty sure they dont care anymore. Heck a few of them I have never seen the OP on at all.

Are people just bored that they have to do that? Do they think that they are being funny? I dont get it. Please am I overreacting? Did I miss something?

Honestly is there any way of automatically having threads lock after a certain amount of time of unactivity like say a year? If not there should be.

Maybe they don't want to create a duplicate so that someone won't tell them "we already have a thread for this (link)" [closed].

That thought crossed my mind but come one 3 years is a little extreme. I am sure that if they made a thread of the same thing that a thread 3 years ago had and it has been inactive for 3 years no one is going to say anything.

@KiDasharus: Lol I picture that too.

I suppose they think what they're posting will add to the discussion. There can be a four year old thread for Super Mario Sunshine and someone might post something like "Hey! I found a secret level!" and that would add to the discussion. For threads like "Help! My Wiimote isn't turning on!" though, you're right on the money with "I am sure that whatever question the OP was asking is solved by now".

That would be understandable if that old thread was still active, but if it lay dormant for years and someone trying to start a conversation with a user that's no longer around, its kinda pointless.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

What really bothers me is when they revive a solved/old question/happening/trendy thread just to add something like "lol" or "any1 wans to be my 3Ds friend?".

@Mickey: Yeah I can understand the Super Mario Sunshine example. But it seems like its never those type of threads its more like "I need help on this" or some random thread that someone started 3 years ago and the people who participated in that thread aren't even around anymore. Something like "I Like Tacos" and than someone brings it back 3 years later just to add "yeah I like tacos too" I can see if they are going for post count cause some sites you get rep points of something for post counts so people do that kinda of stuff for the post count but here, it just doesn't make sense.
