Decided to post here, to see if anyone just dealt with this just now. Or have before...the phone's number literally just called itself. With my sister's phone doing the same a second later...I actually answered to see wtf is going on and got an automated message asking for my SSN...obviously I didn't do anything and it just randomly hung up.
Anybody know what the....fffffffffffffFFFFFFFFFFFudge just happened here? lol

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I live in Mexico so I've received a number of scam calls in my life. Besides the ever present cousin who never identifies himself, the woman that was attacked and needs help, and the thug that kidnapped my sister (I don't have one), the most memorable one must be one they did to our neighbor, using us.
So, every year for a long long time we would go by car to Arizona. However, one year we changed plans and went to Mexico City instead.
Turns out some jerk called my neighbor, who is extremely close to us and is basically family, they told her we had died in a car accident on our way to Arizona, and that they needed her to deposit money in some account for them to send the bodies back home.
She obviously freaked out, but was very confused because we weren't on our way to Arizona. Thankfully she decided to contact our family in the city first before doing anything, and they managed to get in contact with us.
I guess the disturbing part is that they knew our usual vacation schedule and route.
Looks like Joey was a target of phone number spoofing, which is unfortunately very easy to do. There were a slew of these in my area awhile back; the digits were always a number or two off of your actual number (1234 could translate to 2145 or something like that). The spoofing sometimes included the area code, too.
But yeah, phishing and social engineering with unknown/weird callers is definitely a thing, and the scary thing is that some of these schemes are getting pretty sophisticated.
Well the number was exactly the same, even the profile pic I was using was the same.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that this happened to my family around the same time, I was first, then my sister, then my mom, and then dad...Anyways at least it's not calling us again. lol
But, it's a smart phone. You selfish humans, only allowing it to call other phones. Leave him alone! If he wants to call himself, let him do so! #phonecallsmatter
I have gotten calls from "my" bank to offer me "great deal" to remortgage the house I don't own back when I still lived with my parents. Back in the land line days we used to get a lot of calls with no one on the other end. I have since learned thieves used this tactic to determine which homes were frequently empty and at one times, so they could break in unopposed.
If you have a smart phone, run your anti virus app and check to make sure you know what all your apps are. It sounds like someone might be trying to get your location.

There are a string of calls that imitate your number and trick you into answering it. Best thing to do is either decline the call or ignore it. Never EVER answer the phone because this can cause more calls later.
Don't know where you're from, but there was a scam like this running in Canada a while ago. Happened to me and several other people I know. Your phone rings and your number appears on the screen. It's a scam.
Don't answer it or decline the call.
