“Unfortunately we have not been able to determine the whereabouts of Mr. Bush,” Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill said. “With all the equipment that we brought in and specialized help, we have just not been able to locate Mr. Bush, and so for that reason the rescue effort is being discontinued.”

A frightening story of a man consumed by a sinkhole when he was in his bedroom more than likely asleep.

It's been confirmed that there is no way to reach Mr. Bush's body due to the depth of the hole. Even with state-of-the-art technology, the circumstances are too dangerous to retrieve the body and is presumed that the man's body will remain in the ground.

Thoughts?

Heard the story the other day and what a way to go. His brother who was in another room heard him yelling out and when he reached the bedroom, the brother only saw the mattress sticking out of a hole as it descended into the hole. As the brother attempted to go in to rescue his brother, he claimed to hear faint voices calling out to him before he was pulled out by rescuers. Never knew how dangerous sinkholes can be until recently, and this is cringeworthy:

My condolences to the family for their loss.

I cannot imagine the despair this man's family is enduring.

Though, risking others' lives in the process of retrieving one man's body, is ludicrous.

How the heck does that happen? That's just crazy... Everything seems normal, and then you're just falling into the world? Life's pretty weird and messed up sometimes, I guess.

Yeah I heard about this on the radio the other day and it's quite tragic. Apparently sinkholes are common if Florida but nothing like this has happened before. My condolences to his family and friends.

Ugh one more reason of why is Florida so attractive again?Getting hit by hurricanes all the time, tons of sinkholes, giant bugs.

Not joking here, when I die, I hope it's some freaky nature born event that does me in. But my condolences to his family. It really sucks when something like this happens to someone so young.

I hate how they are not even going to attempt to look for him. He could still be alive and stuck in an air pocket for all they know...

They could just get a decent sized crane and use it to find him or something. At least doing that will be better than doing nothing.

the problem is that the entire area is unstable. putting heavy machinery such as a crane close enough to do any good would de-stablize the ground even more, which would endanger the crane operator and others.
