Topic: Should remapping options be mandatory?

Haven't you ever hated it when there was a simply awesome game, even worthy of a 9-10/10, but the controls are messed up? (coughmegamananniversarycollectioncough) If remapping options were mandatory in every game, this problem simply wouldn't exist (except for some wii games). It could even be programmed into the system itself. Good idea?

No. Unless it makes them completely unplayable(I think I've run into this once or twice, but I can't remember them), I just man up and get used to whatever controls I'm given. Trying to change it just screws me up.

The only exceptions are with PC games(on the rare occasions that I actually play PC games), where I have to use all of my fingers, which makes things pretty complicated for me. Then I have to move everything so they're more comfortable for me, otherwise things turn pretty ugly.

Really, it's pretty rare that I actually had a problem with the controls. I mean, sure, I've complained about them plenty of times, but so long as I can get from beginning to end, they're not really that big a deal. Sure, remapping would be okay, but I think it's just simpler for the developers to make the controls as good as they need to be. Why make a game where everyone who gets it has to remap them because you f'ed them up?

Each game would always have it's default controls, and they would be optimized for that game so you wouldn't usually have to bother with this feature. But everyone makes mistakes, for example, Megaman anniversary collection for GC has jump set to B and shoot set to A. No no no. That's not how we do things.
Besides, everyone has their own preference.

True. I just don't see how it's so hard to just get used to it. I never had too much of a problem with MMAC's switched controls, once I practiced enough. I know every time I change the controls, I pretty much always go back to the default, since I already was starting to get used to the default anyways.

Besides, adding remappable controls will cost the developers time and money. Why make them go through the extra step?

Yes they should. Midnight Club Los Angelas is a great example as the default has the brake/accelerate mapped to the right analog stick wich is horrible. I had to remap right at the whole controls to make it playable. I remember some PSX games had the controls inverted where up was down and vice versa and that was for FPS games wich was horrible. I think it should be mandatory, especially for someone who may not have all their fingers or something of that nature as I had a friend that his hand was barely movable after a motorcycle crash, but remapping controls allowed him to play some games. It has more benefits than not.

I prefer to play games the way I want to, not how some developer thought I might. So yes, that would be great if such options became standard.

As an example, I'm attempting to 100% de Blob atm, you don't know how annoying the wiimote jump flick gets after a while. I'd like to change it,but can't.

Another example, I traded NPC Mario Tennis because the NPC's broke it. If I could have changed the controls or used my wavebird, I'd still have it.

Whether it becomes mandatory is up to the developers but there are a lot of games I would like to remap it 100% my way. Some games just do not feel right when you pop them in.
