I personally think Nintendolife should do away with scores altogether to get people talking about the content of the review itself, rather than going "OMG XXXX GOT A 10 YES!"
The former leads to interesting debate, the latter is just irritating and detracts from the good work that the reviewer does.
The only "scoring" system I've ever felt was appropriate was the "buy it" "rent it" "leave it" scale. That's a good one.
That said, I'm forced to use a stars system as well (Gamepro uses 5 stars with half marks - really, the same system here), so I understand why we do use them.
I personally like the half point rating system, so I would definitely not argue if we adopted it here.
BUT
I can see why we don't have one. Every time you add some extra nuance to your grading scale it takes a little more focus off the actual reviews; and the emphasis on the written review rather than the numbers is one of the things I, and I think many others, find so appealing about this site.

@WaltzElf But...then we'd actually have to READ the reviews. Nah, J/K, but without a point system, you wouldn't really be able compare games too well, or figure out a more general approach on the reviewer's opinion of the game.

I think we should do away with reviewing entirely, and just embed pornographic video clips onto the game's page. The better the game, the more hardcore the clip.
For example, Mega Man 9 would have a clip that's 20 minutes long and doesn't even offer a breather.
Niki Rock N Ball would be 40 seconds of a fat kid sitting alone on a park bench.

I did use to like how Kotaku did their reviews by listing stuff they liked and stuff they didn't with a conclusion about their feelings towards the game overall. Seemed like a good way to focus for a blog, but they done did away with that system now and replaced it with some weird conversation format that seems to always miss what I want to know.

I hate .5 s If anything make it out of 20. Though I would also like to see video reviews.....

I like the .5 option myself. I like how 9.5 gives a huge edge over a 9 to readers. I think that is the only way I would really use it though. If something is so close to a 10, but just not quite there a 9.5 is perfect as a 9 feels like a much larger drop in score to me.

On the one hand, since the numerical reviews get used in aggregate score review sites, half points would help make finer gradations... On the other hand, if you're going by numbers to tell you if a game is good, you're going to be disappointed... Unless we're talking about Donkey Kong Jr. Math.
I don't see much point in half points, myself. May as well go to scientific notation, really... that way a game can get 3.141592653589 out of 10.
I like .5 score systems since they give you more accurate scores and that way there'd be less 10's but they really aren't necessary. The reviews here are great and tell you everything you need to know to decide whether to buy the game or not, the scores are just a bonus.
I want a facial expressions system, instead of a rank the reviewer posts a photo of themselves, the look on their face showing how they feel about the game.

When did they do away with that? I loved Kotaku's old format.
I like the plus/minus idea. See, I like Sonic Colours on DS and gave it an 8, but it was probably a low 8. Now I'm playing the Wii version and it's really good, and better than the DS one, but is it a 9/10 game? Tough choices.

Brutus WINS! Get to it NL. See ,I don't even like Mega Man but would totally watch the review!
@SZM Duuuude!! Hows things man?? I'm splendid, thanks for askin'
We need a review system where, for every point a game scores, we take a piece of clothing off of Sephiroth, until we reach the glorious point where a game scores 10/10 and Sephiroth is... passes out

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
