I dont think kids should be on Facebook or any Internet Website that they can post pics, info, etc. At least they wouldnt be doing it in my home. I got a few years until me and the wife have a child of our own so I got a few years to think it all through In all seriousness though, I agree with the above.... 16+

I think it's one of those things that depends on the kid's maturity. If they had friends from another town on summer camp, I don't see what the problem would be on letting them have an account to let them catch up, as long as there was some age appropriate supervision.
It would be nice if they had some sort of parental control feature on facebook, but in reality, parents CAN'T supervise their kids all the time, and it's not too difficult for kids to lie about their birthday online. You need to teach your kids how to handle this stuff before they do it. Facebook is really no different than AIM was for me when I was in middle school. Yeah, there was some cyber-bullying and sexting (this was over 10 years ago). It was traumatic for some at the time, but looking at facebook, it looks like most went on to have no less healthy jobs and/or relationships than anyone else (though some might not want to run for office). It's no worse than real-life bullying, rumors, and sex in middle/high school after all, and that's been happening since time began.
You just need to teach your kids not to post pictures of themselves naked or doing illegal stuff (though if they're in these situations where they could have pictures taken of them, you have bigger issues as a parent then them posting on facebook), not to put your home address and phone number on facebook, nor meet any strangers met online.
Nah, stop arguing this one. Facebook is harmless, imo, it's the people that don't know how to use it - people of any age, from child through grandparent - that are the problem.
@Token.... to me IMO the Camera Phones and todays girls is the MOST DANGEROUS electronic device on the market, stomping Facebook. So many pics that shouldnt have been taken going to just the boyfriend and then exposed to Many other eyes and screens. That is a major issue. Facebook and Myspace both will ban accounts for sexually explicit pics. Phones have no limits. Im getting way off subject, but I wouldnt say Facebook is harmless, but I find it a lesser evil.

There are always going to be people who do stupid things. The question is, do we blame the people, the parents of the people for not educating them properly, the schools of the people, also for not educating them properly, or a company who doesn't even realise the people exist?
People are quick to blame the corporation, because that means they no longer have to take personal responsibility for their own actions. It's not Facebook's fault if you post something that gets you fired from your job, or turns you into the worst kind of Internet celebrity. That's your fault for being an idiot, and to a lesser extent, your family and school for not teaching you how to not be an idiot.
LOL "Fanboys", I'm a girl. I have my first name on my NL profile. I don't think there are many guys with the name "Rebecca".
just so you know, the info in that 'real name' box isn't publicly viewable, and there's nothing in your sig to suggest your name is actually 'rebecca'. if you want people to know off the bat that you're female, you may want to edit your sig to say so instead of getting all snarky over casual use of a general term that may or may not have actually been meant to encompass you personally in the first place.
O_o Didn't mean to be snarky, I thought it appeared there, since it had the option....
Oh. Sorry. I didn't read the whole article in the URL you provided. My attention span can be a real sometimes. That's part of the reason I didn't get the rules to the "Worst Game in the World Picture Edition" at first.
