Does Nintendo really need more console ip though? They've got that in spades already, and can't develop fast enough to meet demand as is.

I think they should try to expand the console definition with their acquisitions. Create a partnership with Valve to bring Steam to the platform and split profits....The next console would play pc games with interfaces designed for motion controls, coupled with nintendo exclusives. Also focus on MMOs and RTS ip that become wii-u and PC exclusives by design limitations of the PS4/XBONE. I would target World of Warcraft, The Total War Series, Age of Empires, Dungeon Fighter Online, Rise of Nations, SWTOR, etc. Couple the platform with streaming capabilities from your PC so you can play games you already own with motion controls. PC gamers don't have lulls in content releases. Blur the lines a bit, and that would never be a problem for Nintendo again.

That all sounds great and would be incredible if it could happen but with the rock bottom prices you can get games for in sales how would Nintendo then be able to still sell their own games at full price? It could hurt their own software business in the end.

Its why I think Nintendo should buy the whole of Konami. They don't just need the IPs they need the people to develop them providing Konami with QA and a small number of of key personnel. The potential to use Konamis experience in the health and fitness industry could make QoL more profitable. People say that Konami is doing well financially outside of its gaming division and wouldn't be bought but I think it makes a lot more sense to buy a company that's doing well then a company that is failing.

The "whole of Konami" is well over 5000 employees, more than Nintendo themselves.

Of course Nintendo's revenue and profit are both several times higher than Konami's, but still, you can't just buy that kind of personnel without massive layoffs. Could you imagine the nightmare at HR? Nintendo would be better off letting the company burn to the ground then digging through the ashes for IP and employees. That would be much cheaper and easier. They could even buy a spiffy new building to stick them all in.

konami doesn't want to be bought nor do they want to sell their ip's. they make more money with pachinko and they utilize their own ip for the machines.

Whether they end up buying Konami or a series of smaller companies I think Nintendo need to acquire. There is a chronic shortage of personnel which means, with Nintendo having to provide much of the quality support for there devices themselves, a shortage of releases. New IPs are always welcome from a gaming perspective but established IPs with large fan bases bring in money and help to make there consoles viable competition. Konami are a big company that's for sure and buying them wouldn't be cheap but Nintendo have the finances to buy out a company like Konami and the long term gain could make it worth it.

Nintendo has hired a few hundred people within the last couple of years and acquired a new building. That's basically starting a new studio, as far as personnel and infrastructure goes.

Thing is that as bad as the last few years have been, NIntendo is still swimming in their Olympic sized pool full of money. If stagnancy is an issue, they have the capital to hire new people and buy new buildings. They can expand all the live long day, and that's exactly what they've been doing.

No. They should buy Disney though.

And Google.

Why do people want Nintendo to buy every struggling company? They've got enough financial worries as it is. AND enough IPs

Financial worries is exaggerating, they're reportedly very cash rich and without any substantial debt and they've started posting modest profits. Obviously eating some losses early in the Wii U's lifespan wasn't ideal but in terms of viability as a company it shouldn't really change anything, hence they continue to do whatever the hell they want.

One would imagine they could make solid profit and maintain the relevancy of their IP's from licensing them, makes sense if they aren't willing to develop them on their own. Nintendo probably wouldn't have any desire to pay a lot of money for any IP but i could see them being interested in some Classic IP's. Seems highly unlikely however given Konami's been sitting on all the Hudson Soft IP's...

Dear god no...... If anything Konami should be purchased by Capcom, and start using the "Hudson Soft Icon". Because Konami owns them now.

the best I think would be for Konami to auction their IP and leave the gaming business...... Nintendo can buy some IP's but not all of them

This expansion doesn't seem to have sped up development of games much but hopefully they stick at it and it has results. With Nintendo trying to push QoL also I wonder how useful having someone like Konami as a part of the company would be.

What is with all of these Nintendo should by some random japanese 3rd party company seems like wishful thinking since a chunk of these companies make their sales on PC.

The thought process is that it would give Nintendo two things, A) Those companies IP and B) More employees to make more games and avoid software droughts.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Pro Evolution Soccer is something Nintendo could really do with.

Maybe if they could get just the parts of it they don't want.

Nintendo doesn't need more IPs, though, and no one company could release so many games on two platforms that they could avoid a drought. I don't think it'd be that good an idea. Maybe getting some western studios to expand their market would be a good idea, but I think Ninty's set in Japan...
