Pros

Access to big name IPs like Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, YuGiOh, Pro Evolution Football, Contra and Dance Dance, Goemon and Silent Hill.

A diverse company involved in other markets like health clubs and slot machines which are still profitable.

Would also acquire Hudson Soft as part of any deal.

Cons

Video gaming division often delivers games over budget leading to the companies sometimes poor financial position.

The loss of Hideo Kojima.

I would be all for a deal to happen. Nintendo would be investing for the next generation but in the short term they could help the WiiU by porting titles like the Metal Gear HD collection, Pro Evo, the back catalog available on the V, theoretically Silent Hills could come to WiiU and a game like YuGiOh which could have a short turn around. I think a 2D castlevania on 3DS would work well also. Next generation Konami could have a whole load of exclusives ready at launch and beyond helping to diversify the library and reduce software droughts.

With Nintendo bringing its QoL platform to market Konamis range of health clubs and experience in the industry could prove vital in promoting the product and helping it enter the mainstream.

The slot machine and arcade industry is big money in Japan. Nintendo could benefit from the steady income provided by this.

The loss of Hideo Kojima will mean the metal gear franchise will be entering a new stage and it will be hard to predict what will happen with it next.

The company has a poor attitude to budgets. Nintendo might be better off avoiding the potential fall out that comes from imposing a new way of operating.

What do you guys think??

I should have known one of these threads were going to pop up.

Yeah sure why not, right after OUYA.

And why is this in the Wii U section. Honestly why does everyone treat the Wii U section like the general discussion section?

Because any Konami acquisition would affect the WiiU a lot. I think it is a good ideabut iI'd equally like to hear why people think it isn't a good idea. I'm asking a question because id like to know what other WiiU and Nintendo gamers think and maybe then I can learn something

I think on balance even if it was a big cost Nintendo would benefit in the long term. I'd love to see Konami. Capcom and Namco Bandai all come under the wing of Nintendo and build the greatest gaming company of all time but realistically that will never happen sadly

It'd be way too expensive an acquisition, and most of the talent is no longer at Konami, so it'd just be pointless in the end. What we should want is for Konami to sell their IPs, but even that's unlikely.

Chin up friendo you never know they might be more than happy to part with some of the IPs but even if they were willing Nintendo would still need additional studios with experience to make the games. Nintendo struggle to get all of there IPs covered let alone other IPs.

Only if Nintendo is able to get the talent back that had long left Konami. Castlevania is a shadow of its former self because Koji Igarashi hasn't been working on it since 2010. The Silent Hill Director left Konami after Silent Hill 4. I'm surprised Suikoden Held up so well for so long considering it's creator left after the 3rd game, but most fans felt a steady decline from 4 on, and it seemed to hit the bottom with the PSP game. Quite frankly, I could see the aquisition being the same thing that happened to Microsoft, largely a waste of money outside of having another location and programmers to work on the big games you already have, while a bunch of online nerds rage about you sitting on a bunch of IPs...actually, that's their situation already...

Um...the only part of Konami I think isn't doing too well is its games division. Other than that, it's doing pretty well, so I don't really see the need for them to be bought.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

I sometimes wonder if there is am entire generation of talent there at Konami just waiting for there chance to try something new and exciting with the IPs they grew up playing. I get the impression there's people at Konami who really love the games the company made and all they need is the chance to show what they can do free from the influence of the elite leading the companies productions. I think Nintendo could benefit from buying the while company but even just the gaming division could work.

Or...they could buy the IPs (if Konami decides to sell them. A big "if" since quite a few of their pachinko machines use Konami's game brands), and try to attract the individual former producers and directors of the big franchises if they can, and save themselves a lot of money and hassle...

But even that may be a dream. You don't often see people getting their IPs back after they leave a company very often, especially when that IP goes under new ownership...

Unless you hate video games, no. Konami should not buy anything unless a clue is available for purchase.

1) It's the 'Metal Gear' franchise.
2) There's no beneficiary reason for this merge.
3) Metal Gear installments exclusively on Nintendo platforms sounds like a nightmare.

Why do people want Nintendo to buy every struggling company? They've got enough financial worries as it is. AND enough IPs

No. And no, Konami isn't going to sell their IPs, at least not in the near future. They still make money of their IPs; for their pachinko machines, mobile games, ad revenue, and fees other companies have to pay if they're ever willing to try and get those games on a VC or something like that.

Does Nintendo really need more console ip though? They've got that in spades already, and can't develop fast enough to meet demand as is.

I think they should try to expand the console definition with their acquisitions. Create a partnership with Valve to bring Steam to the platform and split profits....The next console would play pc games with interfaces designed for motion controls, coupled with nintendo exclusives. Also focus on MMOs and RTS ip that become wii-u and PC exclusives by design limitations of the PS4/XBONE. I would target World of Warcraft, The Total War Series, Age of Empires, Dungeon Fighter Online, Rise of Nations, SWTOR, etc. Couple the platform with streaming capabilities from your PC so you can play games you already own with motion controls. PC gamers don't have lulls in content releases. Blur the lines a bit, and that would never be a problem for Nintendo again.

More of a Microsoft thing to do isn't it, massively overpay for a company that they will underuse it's IP as it doesn't fit in fully with their business plans. Could only really seeing Microsoft buying them out of the big players.
