I've read that shiny resetting is almost impossible in Emerald with a dry battery, but not in Ruby and Sapphire.

For some odd complicated reason.

Edit: after some googling, it seems the "almost impossible" applies to all copies of emerald and dry R/S.

Apparently it has to do with the way the game manages shinies, which has to do with the frames per second and stuff.

For example, there's a set frame where a wild encounter will always be a shiny Pokemon, and in Emerald and dry R/S the counter for that frame is always reset upon loading the game. While in fresh R/S it is tied to the battery.

So in those two, you can keep trying and hope you get the lucky frame, but in the other case the frame is always set to happen at a set time after you turn the game on, and well, figuring out when is really hard.

Just trying and trying as quick as you can will most likely result in you never finding the shiny frame.

Of course, after you figure out that set time... The "almost impossible" could become an "easily exploited".

@Meowpheel Hmmm. So I don't really have a chance then. I've wasted days then. So because my battery is dried up I have to be super lucky?

Less lucky and more... Methodical. I guess.

You could always replace the battery, it's not extremely hard to do.

@Meowpheel Oh man, I've wasted hours then. I'll just do it in Oras. It's a lot slower though. Thanks for telling me who knows how much more time I would've wasted.

Yer welcome!

It should be said that this won't forbid you from getting shinnies at all, it just makes it hard to get them via soft resetting.

@Meowpheel Yeah, I'll use HG/SS for shiny starters. Just remembered you get given them in game. Plus Oras for the one I don't get. Fire Red and Leaf Green don't have this issue so they?

@Meowpheel That's good then, it's insane that the internal battery controls shiny Pokemon.
