I always thought the objective of most Furries was to broaden the range of Furry characters, and considering the fact that Looney Toons can been enjoyed by just about anyone, I feel like they really accomplished that.

Still wouldn't mind some more stories that don't delve too far into riskee territory, though...I'm sure they're not too difficult to find, but I've had terrible luck at picking ones to try every time I look...

Also, does anyone else like it when furry characters display traits related to their species? Whether it's a smart owl, or a hungry bear, a busy bee, or a sly fox, a soft-speaking mouse, or a fast-talking cheetah who loves to run, it just always feels better to see those traits. It just makes it seem like the anthromorphisation was more than just aesthetic. Plus it feel like more thought and effort was put in - it's a kind of self-assigned limiter or special condition they give themselves, and as Guy-Sensei always says, that just makes you work harder.

You know, I like action shounen manga. A lot. A part of me really wants to do an action/adventure in a manga style, but with Furries. For a while, though, I held myself back at least partly because there was a really good artist already doing one...but now I see he apparently got frustrated and gave up almost 2 years ago. It's a shame, since his art was so good. I mean, I haven't read all of it yet - the story very well could've sucked and wasn't going anywhere, but for god sakes, look at this: http://closedgate.smackjeeves.com/

And the artist hated this page, apparently. Really leaves me feeling sour, seeing a comic with potential be abandoned like that, especially since that's the third time today I've seen it - I checked out Generation 17 only to find out the creator put it on long-term haitus...and has apparently quite other long-term projects halfway through before. If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's don't make super-long projects unless you're just the right type of person who can keep themselves motivated on it for all those years. (it also helps to make the story dynamic so you don't lose interest as easily)

(This also means there's nothing even half-decent left on Petite Symphony besides Djandora...and the female lead is almost naked the entire comic. It's extremely distracting...)

Needless to say, some torches were dropped that probably won't be picked up for a long time...hm...I might've just found some solid motivation to get better at art and writing...

Oh, man. I haven't been on this website in forever. Definitely a furry here. Let me see if I can't answer some of these questions:

1) Who are your favorite Furry characters?

Disney's Robin Hood, Starfox, Dust

2) Do you know any good furry artists?

I have a few that I enjoy following, and I myself am an artist.

3) Do you have any safe art to share?

Sure. http://trevor-fox.deviantart.com/gallery/36616192/Fox-and-Wol... That's just one section of my art gallery. I consider my work to be SFW. I don't draw genitilia. There are a few nude pics because I am studying anatomy at college, but I keep my work clean and safe. At the current moment, I am most proud of: Untitled

4) Do You Have a Fursona?

Yes. It is a red fox.

5) Do You know of any good Furry stories? Or even write some yourself?

I do not except for the odd video game now and then like Dust.

6) How much do you know about the fandom?

Enough. I don't mind being a part of it, even though I know the fandom gets a bad rep. But I pretty much watch from the side-lines. I enjoy furry art and am an artist, so I take part in it that way, but tend to avoid the drama side of it.

7) And, if I may add a question to answer? Why am I a furry?

I find this topic interesting because everyone has a different reason. For me, I consider it a part of me. I enjoy the art and all, but even as a child I enjoyed the artwork and found it fascinating, but I never had a name for it. I just knew when the artwork "felt" correct. When I finally found out about "furry" in 9th grade, I knew what I had been searching for while growing up. So, it's always felt like it's been a part of who I am.

I used to believe I was part cat. Not even joking. At least spiritually, anyways. I think that's a big part of it.

But the rest simply comes down to the fact that I grew up with animals, loved animals, grew up watching lots of cartoons like Looney Toons and whatnot that featured anthropomorphized animals. I also found Garfield oddly identifiable. I read lots of books freaturing animals, often from their perspective. I was pretty much immersed in it from a young age and now I'm still very attatched to it, although sometimes I struggle with whether or not it's something I should let go (that along with other things).

I've given that thought, too. And the answer I came up with for myself is that moderation is good in all things. I personally identify with it and quite enjoy it, however, I don't let it consume my life. I talk about other things, do other things, and live a life just like everyone else. But, this is something I enjoy personally and something I enjoy about myself. As long as it doesn't get out of hand, I believe it's fine. I'm comfortable with how I live my life.

That's the answer that I've come up with for myself. I have thought about and meditated a lot for it.

shrugs If something makes you happy or you enjoy it, then why not?

Btw, I don't know how I could forget this, but if you want a good, PG, SFW furry comic, I can totally direct you towards one: http://furryexperience.smackjeeves.com/comics/677970/page-1/

I linked the first page of it. It really is a great read, imo.

Yes. As with most comics, the artwork and quality progresses as it goes along.

It's actually quite astonishing how many comics I read were cringe-worthy for the entire first year or two of the comic only to get better later...I think 8-Bit Theater was the only one that actually starts off pretty well, but I hear it gets worse after the 100's (I've never made it that far, though). But VG Cats, DMFA, Penny Arcade, even Garfield to an extent - they all started out stupid, but ended up becoming pretty great after a while.

Seriously though, I keep hearing people talk about "fursonas". I already made my Persona 3 joke, but I'd really like to know "how" one gets a furrsona. Do you take a quiz or something?

YOU MUST GO ON A JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY!!! THROUGH THE VALLEYS OF DAVID L. LAWRENCE CONVENTION CENTER, WEST OF THE VACANT LOTS OF VCL, RUSH THROUGH THE HORDES IN F4L, TRAVERSE THE GRAVEYARD OF FURCADIA, CROSS THE RIVERS OF POKEMON AND DIGIMON, RESIST THE SIREN'S SONG OF E621, UNTIL YOU REACH THE SANCTITY OF E926, ONLY TO TRAVEL DEEP INTO THE ABYSS OF FURAFFINiTY, BRAVING THE LIVING HELL THAT IS ITS FORUM!!!

Or you could just pick your favorite animal. That works, too.

Just like @CanisWolfred mentioned, it could be your favorite animal, or you can pick one that best represents you. It could be made from scratch too.
Imagine this, if you were to have another body, what would it look like? Would you be your avatar? Plus, I don't think fursona just applies to completely furry animals, it could probably be a mix of human and something else, like InuYasha.

nods My reasoning for picking a fox is a mix of: an animal that represents my character, as well as one that I found very intriguing. I have always liked Star Fox and the main character Fox McCloud in that, I really loved Disney's Robin Hood growing up, and The Fox and the Hound was a childhood classic, so I picked a fox.

For some people this is quick and easy, and for others, it's a process. My friend went took a while to pick some animals that he thought best represented his character.

I go through fursonas every few years, but I intend to keep Canis until I flesh him out some more and figure out what story I want him in. Usually that doesn't take too long, but I'm being extra methodical this time (and by methodical I mean indecisive...).

Well, there's a number of ways to pick your fursona, and many of them revolve around why you're a furry, in the first place. For obvious reasons, I won't discuss any of the NSFW reasons, suffice it to say that submissive and dominant play a huge role in selection, in that case.

Many people enjoy the community. In this case you want something that represents you to the outside world. You want them to be able to tell a lot about you by what kind of character you pick. A lot of people become furry because the art is cool or because fursuits look like fun. In this case, there seems to be a tendency to over-think things, but you'll ultimately either pick something that coincides with your name or something that you really like in terms of physical design.

There are some people that feel they are some form of animal in spirit, and in these cases, it's almost always driven by inner personality, but then you have furs like me, to whom the reasons are far too complex to get into. Once you reach that point, there's no helping you choose. It's really just all about what speaks to you, and what speaks to you changes from person to person, and even with those people, it changes based on moods or circumstance. This is why some furs shift 'sonas often or even become shapeshifters. Others do just because they're indecisive.

So I think the answer you're looking for, @GuardianKing is that you get a fursona by creating one. And you create one to suit your needs. I chose a black feral wolf with a dark aura because when I joined the fandom, I desperately longed for a connection, but couldn't overcome the feeling of loneliness that swelled inside my chest. From there, my character became molded and shaped by experiences with other furs. My character truly exists to interact with other furs, and is less an expression of myself than it is for most furs. On the flip-side, despite picking up shapeshifting I always stick with a wolf or wolf-hybrid for a large number of reasons, not the least of which being my near obsession with the creatures.

The UGXloggery ... really needs an update.

@UGXwolf Does it have to be a "real" animal?

No. As Rosalina said, they can be made-up animals, a combination of different animals...Pokemon...etc....just has to anthropomorphied in some way. Usually something sentient.

Just remember: lime green and Mexican pink are nice colors for clothes, not fur.

At last not combined together and with other 60 colors in the same character.

For a nice furry character, you should think about its biology and environment before it's design. Features and colors need to make sense in that context, just adding features and abilities and colors and random stuff at your character will only damage it.
