Also posting in the Comics thread:

I read a comic called Sabrina-Online. I was kind of reading it out of morbid curiousity, since it's technically the comic that spawned Zigzag, the unofficial mascot of the whole furry fandom...and yeah, judging from the "supplimentary material" she's...just as bad as you would expect a Furry Fandom mascot to be. Needless to say, I was expecting the worst from her source comic...

...but it actually wasn't that bad. It's not great, but it's a fun slice-of-life comic with an arching story and some mildly believable characters and silly but largely relatable situations, even if it clearly dates itself. I should mention that it actually started out as an Amiga fan comic, and was published in fan magazines for a few years. It also spends a good deal of time establishing the characters before it gets into the whole "The main character is a graphic designer for an X-rated studio" part. And yeah, Zigzag is definitely not the main character, if anything she's an antagonist, a source of occasional angst for the real main character, Tabitha. ZZ is at least initially portrayed as legit crazy, too. I can't tell what she's thinking, but she's obviously scheming something. Overall, the comic is more about a geeky girl named Tabitha and the funny little things that happen throughout her life than it is about the going-ons of a porn studio run by a crazy woman.

Buuut, I already know it won't last. I skimmed the latest chapters a few months ago, and I honestly didn't even see Tabitha in a single one of them, but I saw a whole lot of Zigzag. And even in where I currently am in the comic (1999), her schemes seem to involve sexual harassment, and the comic itself, even outside of the "studio" seems to be getting racier, so I'm probably going to be dropping it soon. Yet still, I had fun for a good 100 or so strips, and I'm glad I got to satisfy my curiousity. TBH, I don't find a lot of good slice-of-life comics with an actual story to it, but I always treasure them when I do find one, and this will likely be no different.

This is what happens when I get to busy to check back on the NL General forums. I miss all kinds of stuff. Well, anyways... umm... where to start... Oh! Fursona! Yeah, I've got a ref of him right... oh... yeah, can't really show that, here. Well, there's the pic I commissioned. It's SFW... kinda? Questionable... well, ok, ok, but I have a chibi one somewhere. There's no way that's not ok. XD

I'm 90% certain this should be ok for the forums. XD Commissioned from my favorite furry artist, Syntex. :3 She does wonderful chibis and ref sheets and... full body... ummm... wow, I really haven't commissioned anyone else before, have I? Nintendo keeps taking all my money, so I don't have any for arts. XD

Well, anyways, as for characters I like, I do have a fondness for Wolf O'Donnell and literally every character in Dust. I also recently stumbled onto Kit Blade from Blade Kitten and... well, you know. XD Typical furry cast. All the 90's gaming mascots and more!

Now I don't know many (or any) exclusively safe artists, but I do know a few that draw a fine distinction between the two, one even using two separate accounts for her SFW and NSFW art. (That'd be RannaDes, another favorite of mine. WolfMoonDesires is where you can find her safe art, I believe.)

And with that, I believe I'm caught up on introductions. So into the current discussion! Umm... kinda fell apart, huh? ... Well, furry comics! =D Very fond of (again) the typical suspects: TwoKinds, Dan and Mab's Furry Adventure, Slightly Damned (not really furry, but close), and even dabbling a bit on Furthia High. (not so) Recently ran into a comic called Gunnerkrigg Court, and while it's not necessarily furry (there's some room for argument on Renard, Coyote, and Ysengrin), it's a really great read... if you can bother to read it, that is. Many people will likely be turned off by just how wordy this series get and considering it's well over 1000 pages in, not counting filler pages, I could see people being a bit too daunted to start.

Just FYI, Inkbunny doesn't embed easily.

Anyways, I remember Two Kinds. I was gonna read it a while back, but for some reason I forgot about it. I might give it another shot some time down the line.

Also, up to strip #168 in S-O. Still rocky in places, but also still enjoyable overall.

Just want to mention I was wrong about this. Zigzag was created by another artist who goes by the name "Max Black Rabbit", who I always thought was Eric W Schwartz, but they are in fact two seperate entities. (That explains the HUGE shifts in arts style, actually) MBR made a fan comic of Sabrina-Online, and I guess Eric liked the guy enough that he decided to make Zigzag a permanent character of the story. Heck, the "Mysterious Bunnyman" who appeared from time to time was actually MBR making cameos.

I'm actually quite relieved by this. And for those wondering, the fan comic MBR made sucked. It's the kind of delirious wish-fulfillment fantasy fanwanking you'd expect from an anime fanfiction. And now he's one of the main artists on Schwartz's adult site, which tends to feature characters from S-O. At least he gets paid for what he does best...

I don't feel adult material should be looked down upon, hinestly. Not heavily discussed her for obvious reasons glances at the thread title Just regarded with the same critical approach you'd brnig to any other form of art. (That said, I've read very little of either of thise artist's work, and I can vouch that it's pretty mindless wish-fulfillment.)

Oh, don't get me wrong, critically MBR's art is fantastic, and I love his safe(r) works. That comic isn't porn, either. Swartz specifically said "it's okay for [Black Rabbit] to make the comic so long as he doesn't do anything weird", as is written on the comic's main page. It's just it isn't a well-written comic. He had Sabrina, who graduated college near the beginning of S-O, go to the college he went to, in order to create a Rumiko-style tsundere romance between Sabrina and his own fursona. He even 180'd Sabrina's personality - she's very passive, friendly, and a complete nerd in Sabrina Online, but in Max's comic she's very violent and quick-tempered. And a lot of the jokes feel rather at-home in a something like Ramna 1/2. So, again, it's the kind of fanfiction that fanfiction usually gets criticized for. <_<

I will say that knowing that the side content was mostly a product of MBR makes me feel more comfortable about her portrayal in Sabrina Online. Maybe she won't be that bad? I guess I can only read on and hope for the best...

Now I can say it where it's far more relevant, the animation your avvy comes from is probably one of my favorite SFW furry animations. Can't say I'm a fam of the remix that plays behind it, what with it's poor looping and subpar additions to the original song, but maybe that's just me. I can see how the music would be appealing to some.

I actually hate the song with a burning passion, but the animation is amazing and the remix at least sanitizes the song enough to make it barable - the visuals still require the audio to work, so I can't just mute it. I know, I've tried...just doesn't have the same impact.

Anyways...
