Topic: SEGA does what Nintendoes?

SEGA has lost their edge. Name all the games that SEGA has made that are blatant rip offs and 'me too' games to Nintendo, epsecially Spnic compared to Mario. Its like Mario defines a genre and Sonic comes in a year or two or three later in the same genre.

Been like this for years.

SEGA Superstar Racing - that is quite the clone job.

Also notice Project Needlemouse was developed in response to NSMBWii? There is a reason the teaser trailer did not even have any gameplay footage - there was none! It must be hard to be a SEGA fan these days after how it all worked out.

Its pretty easy to be a Nintendo fan. Especially these days.

More than meets the eye!

They're not exactly in their prime anymore, but I don't think any of their recent Sonic games have been nearly as terrible as people say they are. I thought NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was brilliant despite its flaws, and this new kart racer, while ripoffish, is getting great reviews across the board.

Not too difficult, I just pop a cart into my Genesis or a CD in my Dreamcast and enjoy. If you can't do that, there's always the VC

It really is true though, all the original greats like Naka are gone, and there's not really too much for a Sega fan to love. A fair amount to like and enjoy but not love. To be fair though, It's not like they're the only company that does clones. I mean, Nintendo's RARE made Diddy Kong Racing back in the 64 era. Nintendo basically cloned themselves. If it's not completely broken and actually fun, it's still better than about 3/4ths of all the other Wii games out there.

I'm looking forward to Project Needlemouse, because it's done by Dimps and they've done a good job with Sonic Rush. However, their level design just doesn't have the polish, precision, and balance that the original Genesis games had. However, given this is a huge console effort, I'm sure it will be pretty great. However, like all Sega games nowadays, I'll be looking for a review first. It's really a shame that the incompetent business side of things that really screwed over the once brilliant game development side.

At least they're putting their classics on VC, so we can all enjoy them, and they even put them on sale for a while around the holidays. A VC sale shows that they still do what Nintendon't when it comes to their glory days!

Ever notice how the majority of Sega fans buy Nintendo consoles now? There's a reason for that

I just played Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing [Xbox 360 version, but I plan on getting the PS3 and Wii version later on]. It is one of the best non Mario Kart racing games I have ever played. Perfect online multiplayer, simple controls,no glitches, a perfect famerate, and even balanced items makes this game a must-buy. THIS proves that Sega can develop a good game if they want to. Sonic adds the element of speed to platforming, which Mario does not have. Sega has been through some rough times, but that doesn't mean all is lost from them. Sonic 4 has the potential, and Sega was awesome back in the Genesis days, and the company can be awesome again. Not all of their recent games are bad either like Sonic Rush and Valkryia Chronicles.

@Token Girl-Actually, it is confirmed that Dimps and some members of Sonic Team are developing the game. Also, Sonic 4's level designer was the level designer for Sonic 3 & Knuckles. So, I'm very confident that Sonic 4 has a chance to be awesome.

Too much random guitar make my ears bleed.

Don't forget Kondo!!!
It's true, though; Sega has had some good soundtracks, like Outrun, NiGHTs, Shenmue, and the original Sonic games, for example, but most of their other stuff is ridiculous electric guitar riffs, or forgettable licensed music.

@Knuckles
I was under the impression that Sonic Team had nothing to do with this outing, but if the level designer from Sonic 3 and Knuckles is at the helm, I am one excited panda!

"We do what Nintendon't" (in other words, "We don't make good games")

Sega has been slipping lately. Hopefully Sonic 4 can pick up some fans

Indeed. This is game music like it should be.

SEGA is not cloning, it's just not original doing a kart racing game, a tennis game or returning to 2D. But I don't consider these games clones because the difference in gameplay quality is so huge that the games feel and play very different. They copy the concepts, but it's the execution of these concepts that really makes a game what it is. If they could clone the gameplay quality of Nintendo games they would be doing a great job, anyone can copy a concept.

The only people who think that Sonic and SEGA All-Stars racing is a clone have never played it ;D

It's more like a spiritual successor to Diddy Kong Racing. So delicious.

How is the Battle Mode? That's the one aspect of Mario Kart Wii with which I was really disappointed.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Seriously? Again? We get it, everyone hates Sonic, does their need to be a new "Sonic sucks" post every day?

Anyways, I agree with Kid_A. And personally, Sega Allstars Racing is the only game I can think of that's a "copy" of a Mario game. And the NSMBW thing? That's a lie. If Needlemouse being like NSMBW is based entirely on the retro thing, than NSMBW copied MM9, and all the "Rebirth" games are copying that.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

If you love and enjoy sonic games that's great, who cares if someone else doesn't, don't let it get to you. I'm not a big fan of SEGA or Sonic games (love ecco the dolphin and shenmue though) but I hope for you that Sonic 4 will be awesome.

Just going to point out that I've recently had a ton of fun with Valkyria Chronicles, Ryu ga Gotoko 3 and Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. Not to mention Bayonetta and MadWorld, even though they only published them.

Bacon, RPG elements and cute girls, what more could you want?

Bowsotnik

I've recently played Sonic, Sonic II, Sonic III and Sonic & Knuckles, with various lock-ons, etc, on the VC.

Was it fun? Yes.

As good as Mario? No.

Will I be getting Galaxy 2 on the day of release? Yes.

Will I be getting Sonic 4 on the day of release? Yes.

But if I could only get 1 of them... Galaxy 2 in a heartbeat.

That is the place of Sonic, and there is no shame in it.

Project Needlemouse a response to NSMBwii doubt it, more like a response to fans tired of Sonic in 3D, don't see how Sonics appearance in a 2D game on wiiware, could be consider as a countering of a 2D retail Mario game, both are platformers but have as much in common as Quake and Deus Ex, ie other than belonging to the same genre, they really don't play all that alike at all.
