jurassic park jokes aside, i love how people seem to think that this new thing will be used to help humanity... ha! you know what's gonna happen to this discovery? they're gonna patent it and then sit back and get rich as people have to pay them to use their new technology to insert artificial code into their animals. or, better yet, they'll make farmers pay big bucks to get specifically altered animals, and then they'll go after Farmer B when Farmer A's genetically altered bull gets loose and impregnates Farmer B's cow. god forbid nature progress as it has for billions of years or anything.
If these discoveries were honest-to-god made for the betterment of mankind, it would be one thing, but that's not how the world works. in the end, only the people with the ability to pay through the nose for this will have these animals, and there will still be hunger in the world. life goes on.

How depressingly realistic.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
And just to be clear, i wasn't trying to bash anybody for not knowing about the stuff i said, I just wanted to tell you guys that gentic manipulation has been going on for awhile, if any of you get the chance, you should watch GATTACA, its a great movie, and possibly where our world is headed, not that its necessarily a bad thing.
Are you the person who wrote that article? Just curious. How did you find out about our little discussion, let alone on a Nintendo fansite?
No i didn't write it, however i am working to become a geneticist or a forensic scientist, both of which i have to learn alot about this stuff. oh and i was referring to my other comment in this post, not the article
"Love your ego, you won't feel a thing, always number one, the pen with a bent wrist crooked king, sign away our peace, for your war, one word and it's over." ~ Deadmau5
We're still a long way off from changing the DNA of complex organisms in ways which benefit us. This really isn't incredible news, this sort of thing has been going on for years in one form or another.
And yes, I agree with dragon. If that doesn't depress you, then think about this: even if it were to help humanity, do you honestly believe they'll use it for everyone?! HA! Only the rich will be helped first and if it becomes cheap enough everyone else might too

Don't worry.By the time these techniques are perfected we will have all killed each other or the planet anyway. Frankly I have greater worries for the human race, TBH.
Ian Malcom says: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
Jeff Goldblum was perfect for that character. It's a shame he hasn't had any major roles recently, he's a good actor.
And I wonder when Steven Spielberg's next big movie will come out? The last movie I saw by him was War of the Worlds, and that was... mediocre. I guess he's lost that film-making talent.
@theblackdragon That, or somewhat more evil purposes. You can never trust scientists to do the right thing with their discoveries, that's what engineers are for.
