I quite like horror. Although, I feel like horror games are far better than movies, partly because you are attached to the character because you control him, so when some scary crap goes down, rather than watching to see what happens you actually have to do something, and usually it's run. But, no horror game would be anywhere near as scary without it's freaky music.

So, what do you find to be some of the scariest tunes in gaming? Here are some of mine

River Twygz Bed

In a Mario game? PAPER Mario non the less? WHAT THE F***!?

Giyges

Sonic CD Final Boss

Just not something you'd expect in a Sonic game O.o

Phazon Mines

Made even scarier when all the damn lights go out >: O

(also, I know how to use the youtube embed thing, but I figured that'd take up a lot of space)

The Forest Temple from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is basically sounds really foresty with music that sounds like someone is drumming on a wooden pipe. The freaky parts however are the ghostly voices that sound a bite like laughter. Are they supposed to be from those four forest spirits you have beat in the temple? I wasn't sure at first if this was an indication that you were near on of them. But it actually is just part of the bavkground music.

Even freakier is the Shadow Temple. Sounds like it is sung by both sopranic as well as very low voices. As different as they are, they all sound like invisble ghosts are enveloping link around every corner. (which is true to a certain extend, as there are some invisble foes and sharp objects in there)

Well the tune is a rustic remix of Saria's Song. What's really freaky is those puppets that drop from the trees all the time.

Yep those puppets are scary. I prefer the remix than Saria's Song itself though. Pus Saria's Song isn't as scary as this.

Nothing quite beats the original if you ask me.

Man, imagine listening to this as a 6 year old...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPMGAQqOvrg
(i suggest you skip to 6:16)
And what is that thing moaning?

(I have to admit, I froze when I heard the moaning today. I had forgotten about that part.
And is that a.... GAAAHHHH!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsZN1xRQ3o0&feature=related
(This one wasn't actually as scary. )
Man, DK64 was such a great game.
I never really considered metroid prime music "scary". It was more tense, in my opinion. It sort of made you feel isolated. However, it is some of the best video game music I've heard.
EDIT: I just heard the "giygas" music, and I am unnerved now.

Silent Hill 2 has the creepiest opening movie, with awesome and unnerving music. It's scary in a psychological way. The music is very listenable hard rock, not your typical horror fare. (Warning: some horror scenes and violence.)

Most scarily beautiful song is Room of Angel from Silent Hill 4. The lyrics and music cause this slow onset of distress and despair.

HolyMackerel: Great choices! Silent Hill 2 & 4 are my two favorite horror games ever . Also, in Sh 2, i really like the short, slow opening theme when James looks in the mirror. Always sends shivers through my spine.

I'm not entirely sure why, but the title theme to Wizball used to freak me out as a child. I loved the game (and still do; Virtual Console release please, Nintendo), but I'd blast through the titlescreen as fast as I could.

Although now I love the theme, it's pretty cool. And creating those guitar sounds was an amazing feat for the C64 sound chip.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

I nominate this song from Arcana as the eeriest song ever composed:

I wouldn't say the eeriest song EVER composed, but it is pretty eerie. I think the eeriest song ever might have to be Giyges. Especially since at one point it becomes calming, and then get's scarier than before D:
