@RPGamer
Cloud gaming = Hell NO for me.
Streaming gaming is just only renting, not owning the games, not to mention need online connection to play. Offline = Cannot play at all.
In the future, the games will be unplayable due to servers get closed.
Very abysmal idea ever.
@RPGamer Yeah, I don't like it either. Unless I'm playing online multiplayer in say, Mario Kart or Animal Crossing, I'd rather not be required to have an internet connection to play my games. What if my connection screws up? Then the game I'm playing will have frame skips and input lag, and as Sonic says, that's no good. I mean, if that pile of garbage called Stadia taught us anything, games are better off just running on the hardware you're using.
I'd take physical and even digital copies of games over cloud games any day. Say what you want about digital games, but at least they're downloaded to your own console/PC and they still run natively.
Thanks. Just got paid and online ordering at GameStop. I think Xenoblade will be in my cart and Tales of Symphonia.
You know they just remastered Xenoblade on the Switch right? The Switch version is superior in every possible way! You should definitely get that instead.
I just usually use the term "Remake" for cases when they've fundamentally remade the entire game. Like RE2 Remake or FF7 Remake. So gameplay, graphics, and even story all redone.
Xenoblade isn't in that category. It's only really the graphics that are redone (and even there, they did reuse a lot of the original assets).
It doesn't matter what you call it though. It's a great updated version.
@Dezzy Remakes are perfectly capable of being shot for shot
Case in point Shadow of the Colossus PS4, Demon's Souls PS5, RE1 on GameCube and MGS The Twin Snakes
FFVII and RE2 aren't just remakes. They're essentially reimaginings that bring the older games up to modern standards in gameplay and design. They're pretty much new games. Hell FFVIIR's takes way too many creative liberties with the story to just be a straightforward remake of the game's plot let alone gameplay
XC1 on Switch is a remake in the sense is that it basically graphically overhauls the entire game and adds some QoL improvements from XC2 much like how Twin Snakes derived from MGS2's mechanics. It goes several steps above just slightly cleaning up the existing visuals like a lot of other remasters such as Dark Souls Remastered, FFXII The Zodiac Age or MGS HD Collection do. It's a shot for shot remake, but I still think calling it a remaster is too generous. Just my two cents
Well the games like Dark Souls Remastered, FF12 Zodiac Age and MGS Collection, count as HD ports in my books. I know like they like to use the word Remastered, but what exactly did Dark Souls on the Switch "remaster" exactly? It optimized Blighttown to run properly. That's pretty much the only difference!
@Dezzy Wasn't talking about the Switch version. DSR on Switch is basically a better looking port of the PS3 game but on PS4/Xbox One/Steam it has a higher resolution and framerate in addition to QoL changes like fully dedicated servers for the PvP stuff as well as minor alterations for where certain bonfires are located
FF12 and X/X-2 I'd also 100% put in the remaster category considering in addition to being presented in HD they have a crap ton of QoL improvements like increasing the Battle Speed, the cheat battle enhancements stuff, the ability to alternate between different versions of the OST and in the case of FF12, bringing over the International Zodiac Job System which was previously Japan only. The PC version also supports ultrawide, higher resolutions and an unlocked framerate.
@damien33ad just saw your comment on Fire Emblem. I think you should definitely try the series!!! Awakening for 3DS and Three Houses for Switch are definitely the best ones to start with. I prefer them to many more traditional RPG’s.
Also, just needed to say... HYPE FOR SHADOW DRAGON!!!!!!!!🥳🥳🥳
Just began playing Fairy Tail. It's a very nice looking anime game. But the rpg system is exceedingly basic. Kill X number of these, fetch X number of those, level your characters and skills, then move the manga story forward. Four hours in and I am having a good time, but I wouldn't consider this game to be an amazing rpg experience by any means.
I might be enjoying this game more if it were based around Naruto or Dragon Ball Super rather than Fairy Tail.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,241 games (as of March 23rd, 2024)

Made it fifteen hours into Fairy Tail. Got bored, moved on. Started playing Earthlock. Rather like this one; seven hours in, 33% through according to the save file tracker, and proceeded to get smashed by the desert boss. Do I grind or move on?
Decided to move on. Now playing Alliance Alive HD. Only a couple hours in, feels cozy.

I managed to get a PS5, with a copy of Demon's Souls... it's the first 18-rated game I've played but it's nothing too violent. It's infuriatingly difficult so I expect a lot of frustration...
On the opposite side of the spectrum I also got Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But the obligatory RPG I purchased was Trials of Mana. After playing for about an hour, with my starting hero being Duran (reminds me of the eighties band Duran Duran), I have this to say;
. Graphics look gorgeous, for a game from the nineties remade in full 3D
. Combat is pretty fun, and surprisingly, it was a real-time system like in Xenoblade Chronicles.
. Music is decent, and adapted nicely from SNES-era
. Writing is average, and makes it difficult to appreciate characters. Duran fights an enemy, loses, and the game tells me that "his confidence was dented" whereas that fact almost completely flew over me when watching the cutscenes.
. English voice acting is also average, and sometimes I feel I could do a better job. Sometimes the actors feel like they're reading a script at gunpoint, in a monotony I seldom see. But points for trying when they do.
It reminds me of Octopath Traveler, which had a similar style of episodic storylines that interconnect. I haven't gotten my second party member but I'm excited to see what potential this game has.

@Bizaster My Christmas was pretty good. I got a few Switch games (Dragon Quest XI S, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Cadence of Hyrule) and an eShop card. I started with FE:3H. Looks like you got some cool stuff
Trials of Mana is pretty good, as a remake of a 20+ year old game, @theJGG .... There isn't supposed to be much of a story, in the way more modern rpgs do like to have but it looks great & has nice music, with good gameplay
@Bizaster As much as I’d love to say I am, sadly I’m not. But I am a fan of the Ready Player One novels and movie, and the villain references Duran Duran in an attempt to convince the protagonist that he appreciates pop culture. The second book convinced me to sit down and watch Pretty in Pink tomorrow. I wish I spent time watching John Hughes films instead of watching things like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. I see that film as you see Trials of Mana, just not for me.
What was for me though, was Animal Crossing. First two days have been a blast, it feels like it was designed to be played for around 45-60m per day, because tomorrow Blathers should be moving in, and I should be getting my new house. I even showed my sister and she absolutely loved it too. Based off your reaction I assume you loved it too? Let me know!
@BruceCM Absolutely fair, and to think the devs pretty much built this from the ground up makes me very excited. As lazy as the idea of a remake is, I can’t help but jump for joy when we get the FF7 Remakes, and the Xenoblade Definitive Editions, and the Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remasters... what a time to be an RPG fan!
@MarioLover92 Oh man those three games are killer. I got Three Houses and DQXI last year and both of them were extremely rewarding experiences. Both have insane replay value too, so you can eke out the hours.
