Topic: Reversi/Othello--how many of you have actually played it before?

I'm reviewing a game called "Absolute Reversi" for DSiWare. Reversi (also known as Othello) is this old, checkers-like game. It struck me as being rather obscure, but since I don't want to sound ignorant, I thought I'd double check. It was invented by Englishmen, so maybe it's just not a big deal in the US.

So...Reversi...ever heard of it? Have I been missing something all these years?

Don't be sorry. I just don't want to say something like, "Reversi is a rather obscure game" if it's actually a really big deal and I've just been living in the dark all these years.

Sure, I've played Othello before. A fine way to spend a rainy afternoon as a kid.

Othello? Yeah, I've seen him, from Unreal Tournament 3, right?

Na, I'm aware what Othello is, I played it before. There is even an Othello minigame in New Super Mario Bros. for DS.

i'm in the US and I've played this game before plenty of times, we had it back in middle school. fun game, though frustrating toward the end, when you think you're winning and suddenly everything starts turning around on you, lol

Definitely don't call it a rather obscure game, especially since it used to come with Windows. It's still quite popular, and it's a shame you've never come across it before. It's a great deal of fun and deceptively strategic.

Othello... wasn't he in a play by William Shakesburger?

Obese or not obese, that is the question. For Othello, it is Morphin' Time!

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Glad I checked. I figured it was just me being ignorant. I'm glad I get to review it because as you said it's actually a really fun little strategy game

I have played the Go, which is a game of Chinese origin where Reversi and Othello derives from.

Never heard the name Reversi, but by Othello you mean the game were you have to use your pieces to corner the opponents pieces and then flip them so they become your pieces? Then yeah, it's one of the many board games I played as a kid.

Yeah, I've played the game a couple of times. Granted, it was on my cellphone, but still...
