Objection

I did a quick check on the site and didn't see any thread of this sort, so I thought it only right that I make one. Could be a fun place to remember the first time you jumped in your seat or flailed your wiimote madly at the screen in a futile attempt to make the bad things go away.

I personally have played RE (GCN), RE:UC, RE:DC, RE4 (a little), and RE5. If I ever find time to finish RE, I'll likely move on to RE0 for GCN.

I don't like the series.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

I've played them all. RE4 is the best by far, but RE2 has a special place in my heart.

I've enjoyed the Chronicles games because its a easy way to get the gyst (sp?) of the series while avoiding the fairly awkward tank controls. Of course, they're not as scary, i guess. My favorite in scares and atmosphere is the remake for Gamecube. I jumped a couple times, like my first Crimson Skull and the first time a zombie busted down a door to follow me.

I love(d) the series, but 4 was it for me. I tried out 5 and absolutely hated it; on my list of most disappointing games of the year (i do acknowledge that it's a good, solid game, but not for me at all). 2 is the favorite for me by far, even though i did play through 4 many more times (i think 6 or 7 full playthroughs, all but one back-to-back...-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back...). Code Veronica was also wicked awesome. I need to pick that up again and play through it again. Hmm, perhaps i'll hunt for the Dreamcast version, unless someone can confirm that the GC port is superior ...

I picked up Resident Evil 4: Wii edition on Monday. I haven't even had a change to play it yet lol.

Whilst I have enjoyed all the Resident Evil games that I have played which are 1-4 of the main series and non of the off-shoots, The first one from the PS1 is my favourite. Although it did have its flaws such as poor controls, at the time it came out it was amazing for me, never had I crapped myself so much as when those dogs smashed through the window for the first time, and it was the first time also that I had played a game with such an eerie and atmospheric sound track, that creaky sound when you open a door then the change in music certainly builds he suspense.

It isn't just Nostalgia though, I also think the first game had the best setting with the classic haunted Mansion style, also the story hadn't gone too crazy either as it has done with all the twists and turns over the years.

For some reason, my mind totally forgave the tank controls in the GCN remake, but not when I was playing a friend's PS2 copy of Code: Veronica. Although there were several things I disliked about C:V from the start and why I only played HIS copy for an hour or so. Anyway, my point was that the tank controls (on one of the control settings, forget which) were pretty doable and do add to the fear, as otherwise you'd be able to get away too easily, I guess.

Scariest moment was playing the PSX version of RE for me. Specifically it was coming out of a seond floor door and being right behind a hunter that was just standing there facing away from me. It scared the piss outta me, but I did get a goof laugh when I was able to put the shotgun to it's head and say "Hello!"

I only have the first game on PSN so far. Pretty fun, but I'm not fond of being scared. Still, I really should go back to it soon. I do plan on getting 2 and 3 once I'm done with it. I'll probably get 4 and 5 at some point, although I'm not sure if I should wait until I'm done with 3(once I get it) or not.

Are the remakes worth getting if you've played the originals?

The remake of 1 on Gcn is a massive improvement and is some real scary eye candy, as is RE0. As for the rest, I'd say it depends on what remakes you're talking about. I'd go with the Chronicles games for the easiest and best (IMO) way to experience 1-3 and Veronica.

I think im gonna finally finish Code Veronica on DC soon. It's the only RE title i've owned, and I've had it for YEARS. Long ago I beat the first disc and started the second, but hey, s**t happens and I never got back into it. But my DC still works, so I have no excuse.

Come to think of it, i've NEVER beat a RE game, but significantly played 1, 2, CV, and 4.

I own all the Resident Evil games on the GameCube/Wii. The only one I haven't played is Resident Evil 5, for obvious reasons, and I never bothered with the PlayStation Gun Survivor games as I don't think they really count as part of the series.

I really want to play through the six main games in the series again from 0 to 4 (on the GameCube anyway) in sequence again at some point. It's hard to say what my favourite is - I love the remake of the first game, Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica. I'm not a big fan of Resident Evil 2 and 3 but I still love to play through them - I just think the ones set in Racoon City itself are the weakest of the series for some reason.

Objection

I've now completed the Veronica levels in Darkside Chronicles. All that's left is the Operation Javier levels. So I finally have a decent (if summarized) idea of the story of RE0,1,2,3 and C:V. Next on my to do list is finish RE for GCN and then give RE4 a second chance.

Something I'm reposting and reworking from another thread in regards to RE:DC: (My thoughts on the possible/likely sequel.)

It was still damn good. Although, I think it would have been a little more interesting with a RE 4/5 control scheme/set-up, especially when it comes to co-op (as I deeply enjoy splitscreen affairs and lament their dying-out.) I do hope we see an RE of that sort on Wii (RE1/0 with that control scheme would be cool and what I wanted from the wiimakes,) but I also wouldn't mind getting the third of a trilogy of RE rail-shooters. (This time, make it cover 4,5, and Degeneration!)

Huh, I always thought RE2 was the second best of the series next to the original. I was also shocked and pleased at how true to the original game the GC remake was. Code Veronica would be my third favorite. Haven't played zero yet, but I am considering picking up the Wii Archives version. I only played about half of 3, so I can't really give it a fair assessment.

Hey Mickeymac, which version of Resident Evil 1 is on PSN? Is it the original Director's Cut or is it the Dual Shock version that only has the newer (and crappier) soundtrack?

I played Resident Evil 1 only a little on Playstation but owned 2 & 3. I liked them both a lot. RE: CV I have for Dreamcast but only played for about an hour. I finally picked up RE4 & Zero last year. I picked up Zero first and played it for a while but didn't get really far. It's a good game but the limited item space was frustrating (causing unnecessary backtracking). RE4 though despite it's few short comings was amazing. I played through the game 3 times in a row and then got it for Wii and have started playing through it again. I can't explain what makes the game so good but it's seriously one of my favorite games of all time. It's not scary like the old games but it's very solid and the weapon upgrade system is top-notch not to mention being able to play it over with your items from before. I like games where you can play over using slightly different strategies.

RE4 had shortcomings?
