Tails' voice. It's worse than Slippy's voice from Star Fox 64.

PINGAS! PINGAS! PINGAS! I swear every time I think of sonic I think of PINGAS!. I don`t hate sonic, I just wish the series would stop with all the 3D games.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, would you kindly?

I don't hate Sonic. I do, however, hate the crazy fanartists who make it impossible for me to look up both Tails and Sonic in the same search without the filter turned on high.

I hated Sonic when he was an anti-Nintendo symbol, but he doesn't bother me much nowadays. And his voice is not nearly as annoying as Mario's.

No, you're wrong. People actually hate Sonic. And I mean that both in reference to the individual character and all his games, including the supposedly glorious 2D ones. The platforming is slow and awkward. Most of the level you are on autopilot, just rolling through with little to no input. The only saving grace is that the boss battles have generally been interesting, and that's all because it removes Sonic's key attribute from the picture: his speed.

I don't hate sonic. I don't hate his games neither. to be honest, i think if you get passed all the glitches in sonic 360 it's a pretty decent game. i just hate how he makes out with human beings. i mean did rosalina have to KISS him to save his live. why couldn't she just have used the power of the emeralds to heal sonic. i am getting off topic here. sonic unleashed isn't that terrible and is actually great if you play the 360/PS3 versions. but don't play the wii and definately not the PS2 version. sega all stars was great, Black Knight was fun. they just need another DS sonic game or when the 3DS is released, a game for that. Can't forget a DSiWare sonic game too. that would be sweet.
The Character sonic i don't hate because no matter what, sega never let sonic lose his coolness. Even though he Made out a human being:(

No offense, but this post is wrong in a few ways. First of all, Sonic 06 is not a decent game. It is an abysmal pile of fail with Sonic slapped on it. Just because Sonic is in a game does not make it good. Also, the Princess in Sonic 06 is Elise, not Rosalina. The whole romance thing was just horrible and wrong. Sonic Unleashed was not terrible, but it was dull. I lost the desire to play it, the Werehog levels were boring. Sonic and the Black Knight had repitive gameplay and felt extremly short. Also, the whole concept of Sonic being a knight was not really that cool. Sega All Stars Racing is awesome, I wish Sega would put that kind of quality into a Sonic game.

Anyway, on to my point of view. I do not hate the Sonic franchise in general. I love the Genesis games, even Sonic 3D Blast. Those games were on par with Mario's 2D games, and I think some of them even were better than some of Mario's 2D games. However, Sonic went from being an awesome franchise to falling extremly low. Sonic Adventure was really not as fun as some people claimed to be. The Adventure fields were boring, Big and his stages were horrible, and I had no desire to play it again afterwards. Sonic Adventure 2 was an entirely different matter though. The gameplay was good and had a wide variety, there were no adventure fields, the game actually had decent voice acting, and Shadow was a cool new character. Also, Sonic Adventure 2 is the only Sonic game that I have a desire to replay again. After Sega left the console business, Sonic went downhill. Sonic Heroes was repitive, and had WAY TOO MANY characters. Shadow the Hedgehog was abysmal, although the branching levels concept was actually a cool idea. Sonic 06 is one of the worst games ever made, worthy of the AVGN bashing it. The 2D handheld games are fun, proving that Sonic needs to stay in 2D where he belongs. Plus, some of the fanbase is horrible. You would have to see to believe some of the Sonic fanboys who would either defend every Sonic game regardless of it's quality, or bawl over TWO SECONDS of Sonic 4's footage [just type in Chris-Chan or Spax3 for examples]. If Sonic 4 turns out to be good, then there might be a chance for Sonic to make a comeback. If not, then Sonic is dead forever.

Play Sonic the Dark Brotherhood and you will see the dumb characters that is Sonics little world. Why Sonic has to have a story is beyond me and he is also just fine with only Tails and Knuckles.

Sonic just isn't interesting and his best games are essentially run right and jump, which doesn't translate well to 3D. Sonic 4 follows that old formula but again Sega screws it up by making the game episodic. Far better furry mascots have been neglected (Klonoa, Sparkster, Daxter, Sly Cooper) while Sonic keeps on getting crappy games. It's sad.

Oh. That is kinda sick. Not that I'm homophobic or anything. It's only the first image though. The rest of them seem ... okay, so there's another one, but the rest ... oh, come on!!! That's just nasty!!!

Sonic's Genesis games are excellent. They are not just hit right on the dpad and jump. Anyone who says that I doubt got past the first couple levels of any of the games. Yeah, you can't control sonic while going through a loop...but that takes what? A second and a half? Yeah that's a problem when some levels, especially in Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles you CAN risk timing out on at 10 min.

There was lots of opportunity for level exploration, there are many slower, tricky, platforming sections, and you HAD to explore if you wanted to get enough rings (unless you were super awesome and never lost them) to get to special stages or FIND special stages. The DS games are a little bit too "hold right and jump" for me. They just throw an unjumpable bottomless pit that you don't have time to stop for once you see it. You have to anticipate it, so it's kinda cheap, instead of the fast sections followed by more precise platforming sections that requires you to control yourself as you slow down skillfully.

SA blew me away when it first came out too. It was the first big game for the "next generation" after the PS1/N64 era. Yeah, the camera was glitchy at times, but no more so then games from PS1/N64, so you put up with it. It was annoying to play as Big, but the Sonic type parts were still the meatiest. SA2 had a really good concept of light and dark stories, but it was annoying to have so many eggwalker and find the emerald shard levels, and the camera still had a few issues.

If they had IMPROVED off those games, the franchise would have been fine. Sonic team instead just thought up really cool gimmicks, but then never really took the time to polish the core gameplay. That's why Mario kills Sonic now. When Ninty comes up with a different idea, they create a new game around that idea itself (think the Mario 128 idea that turned into pikmin), so each can get the polish they deserve. Sega just throws a bunch of different things into one game and can't make any of the parts anything more than mediocre.

I beat Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Triple Trouble (Game Gear; which was my favorite), and I'd say that's a lot of it.

And when there is actual platforming, I find myself wishing it were back on autopilot because the jumping is so awkward. Fighting enemies is mindless -- and as if that weren't enough, you can basically take as many hits as you like as long as you don't fall asleep and forget to grab one of the bazillion rings that fly out of you.

It's obviously a formula that satisfies a lot of gamers. The 2D games looked very nice and had good music. The sensation of speed was really impressive for its time. I don't begrudge anyone this -- I'm just answering the question of this oddly phrased topic. I don't think the games aged well. The versus race mode was fun though and I think still would be if I had a chance to try it again.
