How was your day?

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

Wow great questions guys. I enjoyed alot of them and dont be too surprised if I use your question for an upcoming QotD.

I have to say thanks for all the positive response and keeping this thread idea alive. I wasn't sure how well it would go with me taking over but I am glad to see that you all are interested in keep it going. Anyway on to today's question.

Question 432: What is the best cartoon of all time and why?

You can take this anyway you want. It can be a webcartoon, a cartoon series, or even a single episode. It can be American, Japanese or whatever other country you can think of. It just has to be a cartoon. Again please keep your responses NL friendly. f you want post a Youtube video.

My choice would have to be Disney Ducktales. Not only was it a good show but this one holds a special place in my heart since it was one my Dad would watch with me. He was a big Uncle Scrooge fan during the 50's on ward and had alot of the comic books which the episodes were based off of. Not only that but I think to this day its still one of the well written cartoons around.

Anyway hope you like the question.

Be back tomorrow with another one.

The batman series from the late 60's destroys all other cartoons with it's gorgeous animation.

Too...many...choices...

I'm just gonna list a favorite off the top of my head: Megas XLR. It's a wonderful satire of anime, many of which I've loved over the years. A lot of its jokes hit home and a lot of the tropes are well-parodied. Not only that, but it's a good show in its own right. A lot of the characters are memorable, the story was surprisingly interesting at times, and the action, while still fitting the parodied themes, would've fit in an actual Super Robot show. I also love the look of the show. It's noticably Anime influenced, but still very western in style, in a way that doesn't make the look seem like a cheap knock-off. It's not the best cartoon ever, but it's certainly one that resonates with me quite well.

I'd need to do a top 10 (in no order), though, since I could never choose just one as the best I've ever seen.

On the top of my head? Classic Simpsons (ie season 2-7) It had alot of great material, clever writing, memorable characters and a mix of crude humor that doesn't feel degrading. No other adult oriented cartoon I watched has ever come close to match its quality, though South Park does follow behind. I'm up to season 11 and I can really see a dip in the quality of the show(Most likely due to the leave of most of the original writers). While there are a few great episodes here and there, the last post S7 episode I truly enjoyed was the Frank Grimes episode.

As for my favorite cartoon that stayed consistently "Great" has to be Avatar the Last Airbender, it was such a great romp to watch from start to finish.

@CanisWolfred Oh man, Megas! For the record, Coop was one of my first animated character crushes. But it was a pretty good show in its own right.

I want to say, because I watch a lot of anime, .hack//SIGN is my favorite. But it was tragic how they gutted the North American version.

In the kids' cartoon realm, Naughty Naughty Pets has an off-kilter brilliance that cannot be matched in my world.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic...is what you'd expect me to say. Quite frankly, it's not the best show ever (bu it's still very good).

I'm a little confused by @Tasuki's requirements, but if we are allowed to include anime, I'd have to say Gurren Lagann (so good...)

@CanisWolfred Yes and no. There aren't huge scenes chopped or anything, but the whole plot is basically a love story between two of the characters (no spoilers, but all of the commercial break art and the ending sequence give it away). In the North American version, they downplay it by having them just be pals at the end. In the original, the love story ends, well, like a love story. They have their big meet up, realize they still love each other, the end.

I just find it weird because even the North American translation leads the viewer to that logical conclusion and then it just....doesn't.

It's still great though. Just unsatisfying when you know how it actually ended up.

He laid it out pretty clearly. It just needs to be a cartoon (anime is a type of cartoon, quite frankly).

@CanisWolfred !!!

I think you just made my life. I saw it on TV. They did not air that last episode. I assumed it was cut.

World

CanisWolfred

DVDs are usually uncut. Most anime were editted on Toonami like that, sad to say. I can't count how many ways they editted out important parts in various Gundam and Zoids shows, for instance.

@CanisWolfred You are right, but also they're always so expensive. I feel like one has to be very, very careful having anime as a hobby because any given show can cost, like, two 3DS games.

Oh, and I don't even want to know how much was cut from Gundam Wing. I loved it on TV, and I don't think my heart could take knowing how much I missed.

Ed Edd 'n Eddy pops up in my head as one of my favorite cartoons.

Though, I've recently watched a Russian-animated series, Nu, Pogodi! And I really enjoyed it.
