I have never owned a wii before and recently got a wii u. I am interested in playing mario kart wii on my wii u. I noticed the wii has a wheel to put the controller in. Is it only motion played or could I play using just the dpad and buttons on my wii u?

Mario Kart Wii had a controller setting to use the Nunchuck(with no motion controls) if that's what you want. and if you have the Classic Controller(or the Classic Controller Pro) you could use it too.

yeah I am waiting for mario kart 8 as well. I was just curious about play wii games on the wii u. so pretty much to play wii games on the wii u I have to buy other controllers?
