Topic: Project Needlemouse Information - Sonic Fans Rejoice!

On Sega's blog, they have announced that Sonic will be the only playable character in Project Needlemouse, and no new characters will be introduced! A piece of concept art showing a badnik was also revealed.

They are finally listening to their fans! Now, if they will only promise not to include an alternate gameplay system (read: gimmick)...

Not even tails? Aw... I just hope they bother to do something remotely new, instead of just releasing Sonic 1 over again. I mean, at the very least I hope it's more like the daytime missions in Sonic Unleashed. Still, it's a Sonic game, so I'll support it no matter what. Any word on the platform it's being released on?

All that's been announced is that it's probably gonna be an HD game. Not really sure if this rules out the Wii or not

Actually, I was at first expecting it to be a download game, for Wiiware, XBLA, etc. Thanks for clearing that up.

I highly doubt it will be a PS3-only release. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out on all three consoles for a big audience

I'm going to bet that Tails and Knuckles are at least going to appear in the game (they weren't on that list of characters...).

New Sonic the Hedgehog Wii!! That's what we all want, 2D sonic with speed, shiny bits, and well designed stages.

Come on SEGA, just copy Nintendo's formula and you'll be on to a winner. Or... you could come up with the usual crappy gimmick and have the entire gaming community point and laugh at you. Again.

Unsurprisingly, this news has cheered me up somewhat, as has the concept art of the Shellcraker (if I remember rightly? If not I'm sure Rebecca will correct me ) from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Of course, all pledged returns to form until now haven't exactly gone according to plan, but a 2D HD Sonic game that only contains Sonic and no new characters? It'll be like being seven years old again.

My money is on a 360/PS3 release with a downgraded version announced for WiiWare along the line.

Even though this may be good, I'm not gonna get my hopes up. I'm one of those people who grew up with sonic always sucking or being average. I can't let myself lead down the hype path.

Yes I do.
Alex Kidd use to be Sega's mascot before Sonic came along. It's been a very long time since we have seen another Alex Kidd game. At least Sega has Alex Kidd as a playable character in games like Sega Superstars Tennis and Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing. But still, we need a new Alex Kidd game.

I hope they keep that old-school synth voice at the beginning that says "SEEEE- GA!" That was the best part of the teaser trailer.
