I wouldn't call it immature language that's just a immature statement (no offence) however their seems to me that there are some differences with the European (exl. incl. England) point of view of profanity. If those words are never uttered they will only grow in size it's like the word gay/fag/homo that before was used as a way of discriminating but nowadays is more or less reclaimed by the gay community and used in a sort of positive manner. I don't curse a lot but would like to have the opportunity to do so when prompted or needed in my opinion, One shouldn't be shut of a community or else-wise for using profanity. Bullying racism or other discrimination is despicable or bad mouths towards good men and women. Even if the masses opinion is that it's immature and vulgar with profanity shouldn't one have the freedom of speech no matter how bad or uncivilised it is. It's not my responsibility to babysit kids, it's their parents job.
However if I would get my profile on Nintendolife killed i rather just cut of my fingers....
I personally could care less whether people use profanity or not on these forums, but it's not really up to me. Many people are bothered enough by it to send it a mod notice each time they locate a post with profanity in it. I then have to click the link and find the post in question and decide whether or not it's offensive enough to delete and whether or not it's bad enough to actually take action against the user. That takes time. Of which I have very little since I'm constantly working on several reviews at once not to mention covering news, doing Top 20's, speaking with PR firms, sorting through press releases and assets, and conferring with other members of the site's team on various matters. So I only ask that we keep the really filthy stuff to a minimum.

As I said, doesn't bother me personally, but occasionally it crosses the line and it causes an uproar in marked messages. Sometimes on a fairly large scale. Just use good judgement and try to keep it nice.
Well most of the profanity used on the internet that I see is directed towards other people or something that other people care about which leads to a conflict.

I can't speak to NintendoLife (since we've honestly got a more mature audience here), but I can say that those words are banned from the DSiCade ShoutBox. Besides the implications of sexuality (which is too old for many of our users) the reasoning is simple: There are some people who's vocabulary consists of nothing but "gay", "fag", "homo". EVERYTHING is gay in their speech. They're like the kids who drop f bombs between every other word. Except even more annoying.
Soo... best to err on the side of caution. If someone has something to say, they can learn a sufficiently large vocabulary to say it.

And it's not too tough to babysit the site. For the most part, people are pretty cool and things run smoothly. Until the "F" bomb comes down and then the mod notices pour in. I'm trying to get the Mighty Flip Champs review finished up, so it won't be much longer now.
I have this over-whelming urge to swear relentlessly, brought on by the limitations of CONTROL!
I'm British and swearing is part of my vocabulary (the best part), and if you go to the local school playground, you'll hear things that are way worse than any you would read hear. Having to censor myself seems silly (and also quite difficult when drunk), especially when this site has reported both nudity and piracy in the last few months, i find it quite annoying.
If you feel the need to cuss, that's your perogative. It doesn't neccesarily mean anybody else wishes to hear or read about it. Especially when I read a post where somebody typed "Nintendo F***ed us in the As*". That's over the line and I really can't understand where anybody feels the need to put this type of language on a public forum. Simply put "Nintendo screwed us", you get the same effect without all the vulgarities. So, you want to cuss, cuss yourself out in the mirror or cuss while your typing out loud or in your head. Just because you like it doesn't mean it translates over to others.

There is a lot of cussing that is not offensive at all, but if you allow it, it leads to others completely abusing it which leads to misunderstandings and unneeded emotional arguments, and it's a lot easier to police by saying nothing vulgar allowed than having to monitor every post for who is using overheated language and who is just saying WTF?
Is it really such a sacrifice for those of you who do use it politely to use more meaningful language rather than schoolyard language? For the most part, these words are just meaningless intensifiers or expletives. You can say 'crap' or 'very' and get the same point across.
I swear in real life (though much less since I've had a kid) and whilst we may not have a problem, the fact is that if you turn a blind eye to it on internet forums it does tend to drag down the tone, so I don't have a problem with censoring people at all.
You want to see an example of an uncensored, and not well moderated forum check out the Wii section at Eurogamer -- bloody appalling and I don't want to see this board go that route.
So, if you feel the need, use an abbreviation as Machu did or use asterisks and non-alphanumerics like greyelephant and Chicken Brutus have and you'll be okay by me.
I believe Damn, Hell, Ass, Arse and Crap are all reasonable, and limited use of the s-word and using the word "b**chin'" is okay when in context. I try not to go further than that on the internet, all the I might sometimes slip out a quick b*gger every now and again, and I am prone to saying the w word in real life. I do try and avoid the worst ones though (f-bomb, c-word) and instead replace them with things such as funk.
