I'll start:
I got into the Castlevania series because of the artwork of Dawn of Sorrow. I looked at the box art and thought Mina Hakuba is hot and that got me into wanting to check out the game. Because of the picture of Mina, I looked up the review score for Dawn of Sorrow and it has a 9/10 so I decided to try it. I ended up loving the game and the music from it and went back and played many of the other Castlevania titles. Now the series is among my top favorites when it all started with the cover art of a character in a DS game.

I bought the original Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank based solely on the box and low price after they'd already hit Greatest Hits without really having very much of a clue what I was getting myself into. Now I'm a fan of both series. Actually, I did pretty much the same thing with Sly Cooper as well.

That may not seem too weird to some, but I usually research my purchases much better than that. My brother complained to my in both cases for buying into series' unknown, but then he turned out to like them more than I do!

I got into Zelda because the cartridge was gold and shiny.

I bought Katamari Damacy due to its pure Japanese weirdness. I didn't even read reviews or ask friends about it - when I saw it last year, I snapped it up.

Um, yeah.

I mean, it's a game about rolling stuff up using a sticky ball. And you're the Prince of All Cosmos, son to an abusive, magnanimous, meddling, comical father. And the things you roll up get progressively bigger and bigger. And the music is all divinely weird and catchy.

Interesting story, here.

The night I was getting my N64 (I was, like, four), we went to a video game store, and while my dad talked to the clerk, I looked at games I wanted. I distinctly remember looking at Superman 64 and wanting it because it had Superman. But, because it was Rated T, my dad instead got my Super Smash Bros. and Donkey Kong 64. That's how close I was to getting that game... ugh.

I got into Earthbound just because I love when Yo-Yo's are used as weapons.

Back in 1987 when I was a sophmore in high school, my uncle went back to college to get his masters degree and would sometimes offer to buy me an NES game about once a month. He'd call me the night before and ask me what game I wanted and I got to where I would give him three choices because if I only gave him one and they didn't have the game, I'd get nothing. It was a learning process but I finally caught on.

He called one night and asked me if there were any games I wanted and I gave him three titles in the order of my preference. The main game I wanted at that time was The Legend of Zelda. I then listed Deadly Towers as #2 and Castlevania at #3. I had only seen the cover of Castlevania and I knew they had it as I'd seen it the weekend before in the Kay Bee Toy Store in the mall.

I remember hoping all day long that he came home with ANYTHING but Castlevania, but guess what he came back with? I have never been so disappointed in my entire life and I just tossed it on my bed and went back out with my friends until late that night.

Not having anything else to do I finally opened up the game and began playing it and I discovered a series that would become one of my all-time favorites. So I guess you could say it all worked out in the end. LOL. I also got Legend of Zelda about 2 weeks later.

Well, for me, I got into Smash Bros because of this:
After kindergarten one Friday, we went to Movie Gallery like we always used to on Friday. I saw SSBM and thought it looked cool because of the people on the cover. I probably didn't have a clue what it was. xD. My mom wouldn't let me get it at first cause it was T, but she let me get it soon after that. Well, me and my brother started playing, and we had to do 1 player cause we only had 1 controller. We also didn't have a memory card. I started warming up to it. And warmer and warmer and warmer . I was renting it every single Friday for who knows how many Fridays in a row. To this day SSB still holds as one of my favorite franchises. And you know who I picked that first day I played it? Kirby. Oh. Freaking. Yeah!

I got into Legend of Zelda solely because I thought link looked cool in the Smash Bros. games. Now Legend of Zelda is by far one of my favourite series of games ever.

Timesplitters.
I watch this reviewer (classic game room), and I find him to be hilarious. His favorite series of games is timesplitters, so one day while at gamestop I'm looking around and I find a copy of timesplitters 1 for about $3. I didn't know anything about it, but...it was cheap. Had some pretty bad graphics, but I ended up spending about a week of summer vacation with a friend, days back to back playing multiplayer. I still enjoy playing it. I'm waiting for the 4th one. YES THERE WILL BE TIMESPLITTERS 4!

I got into The Legend of Zelda because the cartoon series and E3 were making such a big fuss about it. When I finally played it and beat the first boss, it clicked to me why everybody loves it so much. It was fun!

I'm back (for the moment)!

Well, for me, I have a weird factor getting me into not only a game series, but
a multinational corporation!

So my uncle randomly let me "borrow" his N64 somewhere around eight years ago (I still have it to this day) with Banjo Kazooie, which we played together all the time until we got stuck at that dumb huge turtle boss (I never did beat him). We had nothing to play together anymore I guess, so we stopped. But then my other uncle started finding some used N64 games for me, like OoT, SM64, and other such classics.

Then, one fateful day, he bought me Super Smash Bros.

It forever changed my perception of gaming. Suddenly, scripted, linear games weren't enough for me anymore. A game has to have so many possibilities, characters, items, and stages. The experience has to be different and fun every time. I threw the rest of my collection aside and lived, ate, and breathed Smash Bros. for years to come.

...Until the day I heard of Super Smash Bros. Melee. 9001x better graphics, whuh? More characters, items, and stages, plus a few new modes like Event and Adventure to top it all off, huh? NO WAY. I WANT THIS GAME. I didn't care if it was on an entirely different system, whatever it was (something called a GameSquare?). To play that game was like my life dream at that point. My Banjo Kazooie uncle fed me reviews of the game from message boards, and guides to it from magazines. If I didn't get for Christmas, I would die.

And on Christmas 200X, after a brand-new GameCube and a bunch of other games I didn't care about, not finding SSBM, I started to cry. Every time I tore open the wrapping paper to find some disappointment like Sonic Mega Collection and not my beloved 'Brothers, I asked my mom if she had gotten me it, and she just said to keep opening. I had gone through all my games except for one, and I still hadn't found it (yes, I was incredibly spoiled and stupid at that time, but I was only like 6 or 7 I think). With a rage-filled cry a ripped apart the last present, and behold................................ it was Melee (duh!).

Captain Falcon was my first character and has always been a long time favorite. The game was literally beyond anything I had experienced up until that point, and it was heavenly. I forgot about every other game I had for months, content to duke it out with friends whenever possible. It was the Power Rangers of video games to me in that age.

And so, then, the day my Melee uncle showed me the E3 reveal trailer for Brawl he had saved to his computer, I watched it over and over and over repeatedly at his house until my mom made me go home. I think I weirded them out. What this meant is that I needed to get this "Revolution console", no matter what the cost before Brawl came out. In July of '07 I did.

I think this time of owning a new console without a Smash Bros. game to fill every second of my life was what really, truly got me into Nintendo. I checked out other interesting prospects, some of which were amazing (Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports, etc.), and others of which were not quite as fantastic (Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario Party 8, Wii Play, etc.). This time away from my favorite series ever is what really nurtured my love for Nintendo and made me into the gamer I am today.

Of course that didn't stop me and my best friend from attending a midnight launch party for Brawl (complete with a Melee tournament), walking away with a copy, a warranty, and a guide at around 12:04 AM, and playing it until like 2:00 AM at which point we had headaches and collapsed from exhaustion. It also hasn't stopped me from popping in Brawl again, for old time's sake, just a few days ago, and playing it off and on since. In fact, I think I'll have a go at beating up Sonic again right now. Cheers.

I wanted to get Call of Duty 4 for the Wii and it was on sale but by the time I got to the store they raised the price back up, I only had enough to get a game out of the cheap bin and grabbed Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition thinking better then nothing and it's now my favortie Wii game.

See, I told you this thread would take off. Always listen to me! :3

I got into the Final Fantasy series by playing a spin-off of the spin-off series; Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King

I got it because the game itself sounded fun(I was into sims(the genre) at the time), but started reading about it, and found out about Final Fantasy games. So I guess I have Harvest Moon to thank for getting me into Final Fantasy.

Edit: Oh yeah, about the Smash Bros. series, I wouldn't have even played a Metroid game, or(later) a MGS game if it wasn't for that series.
