the best FPS storywise is BIoshock.

halo 1 was an introduction story
halo 2 was that sequel that did everything right
halo 3 was that thrid sequel that threw everything away and made the story a summer blockbuster chocked full of pretty explosions.

WAT!

I think the F.E.A.R. series has a better story.

Have you ever hated on a game simply because it was popular? How many times were they games you never played? And how many times did you find that, once you actually played it, that it actually wasn't that bad? Or how many times did you find that they truly, truly unworthy of its praise?

Have you ever liked a game, until you realized it was popular, or had its popularity intensify your dislike towards a game into dire loathing? Have you ever hated a game because you knew that people would overlook your favorite game so they could play that more popular game instead?

Or have you ever hated on a game, simply because so many other people tend to do so?

And for all you wanna-be philosophers, why do you think this happens?

In short, have you ever had some hatred towards a game that may be unwarranted?

I know I used to hate on games all the time, mainly due to their popularity (I probably still do, without realizing it). I remember hating on Halo, until I played it. I hated on Final Fantasy VII back when I all I knew about it was its title.I've hated Yoshi's Island, Muramasa, Fire Emblem, the list goes on and on and on, and nearly all of them. Heck, I still can't get into Super Mario Bros. 3 or Final Fantasy 6 because of all the praise they've gotten - I simply refuse to believe that they're anywhere as good as the other games in the series that I cherish so much. I used to love Chrono Trigger until I realized how popular it was - now I can't even get myself to pick it up anymore. And of course, there are game like Banjo-Kazooie and Golden Eye, which I had always disliked, but that dislike slowly grew into hatred as those games got so much praise that I honestly felt was undeserved.

Hmmm...I've actually thought about this because, back in the day, there were certain games that I wouldn't play for one reason or another. I had never played them before, but was unwilling to give them a chance. That's not so much a problem with me now. I just play to play, but sometimes I am a little hard-pressed to try getting into a game, but not because I think a game is bad.

Let me elaborate. Some on here have said that "hating a game because it's popular is stupid," which it is, but I think that's why some people are unwilling to give a game a shot. Sometimes people don't like games because they're popular, but othertimes I feel that perhaps the fanbase for a particular game can be so annoying, that it could potentially turn some people off of ever playing a certain game because they don't want to admit the fanbase is right, and that it is a good game.

Oh gosh, I sure hope y'all can understand that rambling post. =P And I don't feel that this applies to all people. Just going by past experiences here.

I think a lot of you need to let go of your hate and realise there's a would outside of your lounge room.

Seriously - there is a point where a hobby becomes distinctly unhealthy. Hating a game is no better than getting legally married to it.

And outside of that is a world.

True. If you actually 'hate' a game, probably best you stop playing for a while. Dislike is as strong an emotion as you should feel.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense When you get hyped up for a game and then spend your hard worked money on it and it ends up being a complete letdown. You have good reason to be mad. Hate.... if you hate a game/games you should find another hobby. I agree.

As far as I'm concerned, you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Aren't 'hate' and 'dislike' interchangeable? It always has been for me. I can think of much stronger emotions than 'hate'.

The PS3 is a prime example, a lot of people used to hate it without playing it just because everyone else played it, my friends used to hate the PS3 just because they had a Xbox, You can literally tell that a lot of people like the PS3 now because it dropped in price and can play it.
