Topic: Popular franchises you personally feel are over rated

Pokemon

Pretty much all the music games (Rock Band, Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, etc.) I have heard Beatmania is a cool music game though, but I've never played it.

None in particular. There are games such as Goldeneye, Donkey Kong Country, and Modern Warfare that are given too much credit where it doesn't belong, but I can't think of any entire series that are "overrated."

My guess is that they did this because some argued that it was the same as this thread but infact it isn't. Post #45 is proof of it. This thread is about franchises, the other thread was about games. This could be individual games within franchises or games without franchises. Heck, two of the posts in there pointed to individual Final Fantasy games. That's right, INDIVIDUAL games, not the whole freaking franchise.

I'm not the person who created that thread, nor did I comment in it, hell I've never commented on these sites before. Just think it's odd that they'd have moderators who couldn't understand such basic differences. It's like stopping a thread that asks, 'What is your least favorite drink' just because there's a thread titled 'What is your least favorite meal.' Or if it was locked for some other reason, how about a moderator post the reason.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but since the moderator didn't leave me a place to comment there, I thought this would have to do.

And personally, I never really got the whole Donkey Kong Country games. Graphics were great, but that's about it.

First, welcome to NL.
Second, some of the games in this thread goes into specifics, so why does it matter?
The forums don't need to be cluttered with numerous forums, discussing games which are overrated.

Also, the creator of that thread said Pokemon. Not a specific game.

Halo. Personally I never could figure out what all the hype was about. Also I think the Pokemon series is outta hand. Another one thats outta hand is all the Band games.

I think Nintendo Life forums could benefit from having a search feature, that way you can easily see if a similar thread has already been made. I think having several locked threads looks just as bad as having several similar threads.

Most of the games with huge marketing budgets. Halo, Gears of War and a bunch of others. Both aren't bad but they are in no way groundbreaking and deserving of all the attention they get.

Oh and pretty much any game that makes it onto the Spike video game awards.

I dont know Batman: Arkham Asylum was on the Spike video game awards and that game rocked. One of the best comic book character video games I have played in a long time.

Pokémon, it's always the same thing. Nevertheless I play them as if they were crack. It's just so... fun.

Call of Duty.

Guitar Hero

Call of duty is the most overrated game series ever but it's still pretty good. Crappy halo is the second most overrated game series ever. It's just s generic fps that doesn't have anything special about it. Pokemon is another overrated game series. Nearly every game is the same as another and when they try to be different(pokemon channel and pokepark wii) there even worse than the other pokemon games.

From most to least overrated:
Zelda
Metroid
Mario

Super Smash Bros.

Also, Odnetnin's face is overrated.

That type of search is often inaccurate. I've tried to use that for specific threads, and it often took me to articles or unrelated threads. A specific, built-in search function is the best thing for any forum.

I love lists like these. Gives me a good idea of who I need to off...
