I'm not sure about that. I think 3-d platformers are good, but there are good 2-d ones (especially genesis sonic.) They should make a 3d sonic platformer that is the equivalent of mario galaxy in graphics and overall quality. If not that, they should make one completely build around speed stages like the ones in sonic unleashed (best part of the game, but the werehog stages were okay.)

They're both awesome....but as stated previously, there have just been so many more 2D platformers that, naturally, it's easier to name a lot of good ones. Games like Brave Fencer Musashi, Rayman 2, Mario 64/Galaxy, and the like definitely do the genre proud though, and in my oppinion, the well-made 3D platformer is innately superior to the well-made 2D platformer. The day that they finally make an actual 3D castlevania platformer with turbo-precision will be a great, great day....something about the feel of the 64 ones just didn't do much for me, and the PS2 games were more devil may castlevania than true CV platformer, although they were fun.

EDIT: Genesis Sonic is not one of those great 2D platformers, btw. It was a good....barebones 2D racer...I guess....but it just didn't have any semblance of good game control.

I meant all genesis sonics (the normal 2-d ones anyways). And I still think they are great, but they can be kind of annoying

Just ordered The Legendary Starfy. Can not wait for it to get here.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

I have had The Legendary Starfy for awhile now. I must say it is one of the best 2D platformer games on the DS.

I had no problem with the game controls at all, its more about instinct than anything else when the game is at full speed, and that is what makes Sonic a great 2D platform game, it all comes down to taste/opinion to me 2D Sonic is better than 2D Mario, but I know most people see it the opposite way around.

2D. I don't like many 3D platformers.

MetalMario

Both for me. Platformers are my favorite genre.

Galaxy definitely is awesome.

I prefer 2D platformers (it's what I grew up on, a steady diet of Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and Mega Man X), but 3D platformers are great too. Especially Super Mario Galaxy.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Mama_Luigi

I prefer 3D platformers WAY over 2D platformers.
Main reason: You can find cool shortcuts.

You can also find some shortcuts in 2D platformers.

I prefer 2D.

I would have to go with 2D platformers. 3D platformers are good but, most people grew up playing 2D platformers would enjoy it more.

So many good games, so little money to spend.

2D for me Though i do enjoy a well made 3-D one too. The thing is I can still enjoy a mediocre 2D platformer whereas 3D ones have to be immaculate for me to play em', a good/bad camera can make or break a 3D platfomer no matter how good the rest of the game.

What's this bit for again?

I prefer GOOD 3-d platformers, which are few and far between. Love me some good old fashioned 2-d fun too. I really feel like 2-d and 3-d platformers are pretty much completely different genre's though.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Both are great. 3-D can be more of a challange, but I like that.
