Which type of platformer do you prefer? My preference for platforming is 2D platformer.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

I still lean towards the 2D platformers, but 3D platformers have come a long way over the years.

Yeah 3D platformers are fun. 2D are great I plan to give Starfy a try soon.

You'll enjoy Starfy. I just finally picked up Yoshi's Island DS. I've wanted to try it out for awhile now.

2D, although visually I like it to be 2.5D with 3D graphics (Depends on the game though). Bionic Commando Rearmed was a shining example of 2.5D for me.

3d games have to much to explore and no exact way to do something. That is why I prefer 2d platmorfers

That is great to hear. I plan on picking up Yoshi's Island DS sometime b4 the end of the year.

2D games can be explored too (Super Mario World).

I want to make a 2D platformer with 3D backgrounds. Maybe with cel-shaded or flash animated characters...

I absolutely love 3-D platformers when done correctly. The problems is that they're rarely done correctly.

2D Platformers are much more superior, but there are a few exceptions of great 3D Platformers.

Don't bother. It's not nearly as good as the GBA or SNES versions (yes, I know they're the same).

A well done 2-D game is much better than a 3-D game. There are some good 3-D games out there, but it's so easy to screw one up (plus having motion sickness makes some 3-D torture). Of course, growing up with the NES, I have witnessed MANY bad 2-D games as well.

Both are fun. It depends on how the gameplay is laid out. Timed jumps and lots of obstacles are more suited for 2D, while exploration-based gameplay is better suited for 3D.

This is generally what I experience though there are some exceptions. Take Rayman 2 for example. That was a more linear game with a more traditional to gameplay. Still, it was amazing in 3D because it had many clever elements that made the 3D transition worthwile.

2D all the way. 3D have never done a thing for me but I'll mark out for even mediocre platformers (See: Tomba). Sidenote: Anyone else ever get the feeling that your answer to this question is based off when you were born?

Hmmm. I think the pinnacle of 3D platforming is better than the 2D equivalent, but that there are more good quality 2D platformers generally than there are 3D.

Maybe. Also, it seems that girls generally prefer 2D platformers, at least in my experience.

To me I prefer the 2D games because of the precision that the developers are able to develop the games too. The controls usually are so dead on especially new 2D games. Most 3D games are never really dead accurate but are getting better. I love a lot of 3D platformers but have to go with 2D.

@Corbie.....Get us a good review cause Im curious about that one too.
