Alright! I finally finished my first Java game, an arcade-style platformer starring a boy made of pixels. The game features fifteen levels, a boss, and good ol' classic arcade jump n' running.
The controls and gameplay are explained in-game via text bubbles, so pay attention to Pixel Boy's words of wisdom!
Brilliant man. Not completed it yet but i will oh yes. Some great levels dude. Just wished I could use a game pad I only got my keyboard and I'm rubbish using that I'll keep trying though . Again well done man good work
K,thanks dude. When's your 'Lunar metroid reversal' or whatever it's called gonna be ready? cause that looks great too. Get on Wiiware man it needs you
@Luigi78: I'll be writing that in Python. I don't know when it will be done, as it'll be much more complex than this game.
And I'd really really really love to get on WiiWare, but a) I'm not old enough, b) the dev kits cost thousands of dollars, and c) you need to prove you're a licensed dev to Nintendo. sigh
@GabeGreens: Thanks! Your game is an EXE, and EXEs are a bit of a pain to run on Ubuntu. I did try out one of your earlier versions, though, and it was quite cool.
Thanks, Im gonna probably make flash based games after this one. Unless I can find out a way to make the game run on a browser. Even though I like Game Maker
@pixelman Well it's something to work towards I suppose. I didn't realise it was so strict. What about games for Iphone? That seems to be a booming market.
@Luigi78: Yes, the iPhone would be very easy to start deving for compared to WiiWare. I'd need a Mac, an iPhone (or iPod Touch), and then just buy a developer's subscription for $99 to develop for it.
The Google Android would be the easiest, though hardly anyone has those.
This is pretty cool, very well done! I do have one (very minor) issue though: when you pick up a coin, "+5" floats into the air. I know this refers to your score increase, but when you pick up a coin it also increases your coin count, and the "+5" seems to refer to that. You know what I mean?
Otherwise, coolio. I got through the first 8 levels and will definitely check it out more later.
Is there something wrong on my end, PM? I played the game just now, but it only had four levels or so (ending by telling me I'm back home, after the first level with spikes on the ceiling). Also, every level says LEVEL 1, and my points and coins reset between levels.
@pixelman DO IT! It would be a great way to get your work out there and maybe get you a little money towards a WW dev kit.Imagine doing that as your job. That would be so cool. I know your only young ,and I don't wanna patronise you ,but take it from me normal jobs suck. Now doing something you love for money is where you wanna be follow the dream Baby!! I'm sure you probably know what you wanna do with your life man it's just I hate to see talent wasted.A friend of mine is an amazing cartoonist yet he works a s****y job and moans about it LOL.
Excellent game, pixelman! It was a lot of fun; I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to all the projects you currently have in development. I've been admiring them all from a distance, and they all look freaking sweet. Keep up the excellent work!
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Playing in Firefox...wha' happen?
The applet's been cached. Try clearing your browser cache: Tools > Clear Private Data > Check "Cache" > Clear Private Data Now. If that doesn't work, try restarting firefox.
@Panda: Yes, I do see - and that's been gnawing at me for awhile. I'm thinking of getting rid of the number altogether and replacing it with a poof or something.
@Luigi78: I definitely hope I can do that eventually, though it'll probably be another two years before I get my hands on both an Apple laptop and an iPhone - time that will be filled by making free games for y'all.
@Everyone+Else: Thanks! I'm secretly working on an RPG engine with another guy, so yes, you will be seeing an 8-bit RPG from me in the somewhat near future.
