Whoa, I had to do a double take there. At first I though I was looking at MoneySeize, which just came out a couple weeks ago. It's not really the art style, but the level features (except for the ladder) like the balloon, the bird, the way the coins are laid out, and that it seems to be a single-screen level. Of course, it's pretty standard stuff (coins, platforms, springs, spikes), so it might just be that I have the game on my mind. Have you played it by any chance, or is this just a weird coincidence?
I think I've mentioned the game elsewhere, but I forget. So if I seem to be talking about it too much, sorry! I just love 2D platformers, and it's exciting when a new one comes out now that 3D has mostly taken over.
Regardless of intended or unintended (real or imagined) similarities, looks very, very nice. Make a game already.
Thought you'd guys (especially Adam) would like to see this one. I merged Zelda II with Wonderboy in Monsterland and, well, out came this:
As for the Java game, I actually made a lot of coding progress this weekend. I have a background plus some platforms drawing, and the engine is fairly clean. If all goes well the game should be done before the month is out.
It's so beautiful. I want it to be real. I don't think I've played a Wonder Boy game, but it looks well suited to the Zelda II formula. I wish there were some pixie dust I could sprinkle on your pictures and turn them into games.

Now this is art criticism I can stand.
I think it would be fairly easy to make (in Python, my favorite language), but it'd have to be a downloadable game. I'll probably start coding it after I finish the Java game.
Oh, awesome! I have been looking for similar experiences lately. Silver Nova's games rely on similar, simple action-RPG play. The games are really interesting for about five or ten minutes when I realize I am just walking right and pressing attack to see pretty pixel art, just too repetitive. Looking forward to it.
You think you can make a cool pixel picture of Puar (the person on my avatar)? You don't have to use the picture I used for my avatar, try to make a new pixel Puar :3 Could be really nice ^^
@Adam: Oh cool, they have some neat art styles. The gameplay should be very similar to Zelda II, i.e. explore via a top-view world map, random battles, 2D towns/battles/etc. I'll add some WonderBoy-type stuff though, like different weapons and armor, and more emphasis on platforming.
@SonicMaster: Okay, next pic will have an easter egg.
@MetaFish: Lol, I already have one request I'm working on. We'll see.
Imagine, 2 years from now... pixelmans first wiiware game! You've got skills and I really hope you manage to 'bring them to life' someday. Keep us updated with all your efforts, you inspired me to get back into it a few weeks back and I'm enjoying re-discovering my creative side. I'll post something when I'm feeling brave enough. Keep it coming!

I d'no... I'll only just be entering college by then. Getting a WiiWare license is a PITA I've heard, and by the time I can get one WiiWare will probably be obsolete. Still, by then Nintendo will hopefully be more friendly to indie game devs.
I have created several games, but they're all download-only, and since I use Linux I haven't been able to create any Windows stand-alones.
lol. thats you're next game, sad panda's. Wii-ware's gonna be around a while me thinks, in some form or other, dlc is the future apparently. I want pixel panda's!
