There is a good way to raise awareness for a good cause, and there is a bad way.

RSPCA = good way

PETA (and Greenpeace while we're at it) = obnoxious way.

People do not need to be tolerant of people that act like self important w***ers and practice a bit of Eco terrorism in the side.

Woah baby! You're telling the truth now. I hate the pornographic ads that PETA sometimes uses. And yep GreenPeace is a heck of heap a crazy company.

Some observations.

(1) This parody is clearly just a minor joke, or a simple attempt by PETA to bring up a topic via humor. The purpose is fairly tongue-in-cheek: if you are a vegetarian gamer, they hope you might post this to Facebook or elsewhere, with the appropriate sense of humor, and in order to say nothing more than: "just as there are alternative ways to prepare traditionally meat-based meals by subbing in healthy vegetarian alternatives, we vegetarians can have our over-the-top, death filled platformer as well, with tofu!" It may not be a great joke in the end, nor a great platformer, but it's hardly a big deal.

(2) The real ideologue here oddly seems to be the Super Meat Boy creator. He admitted on his blog that he's been creating false accounts on PETA forums for months, attempting to push Super Meat Boy as some sort of challenge. So, now they've released a corny little ad campaign in the form of a fairly innocuous parody, and he's acting as if he's under siege. It's good for his sales, I'm sure, but not really what he makes it out to be.

(3) PETA's problem is actually the same problem I see in some of the anti-PETA comments above, just inverted. PETA tends to succumb to the absurd simplification that eating animals is fundamentally immoral, regardless of the circumstances or particulars -- and then those who fiercely opposed to PETA argue the equally absurd reverse: eating animals is natural, therefore it's always okay, regardless of the particulars. Neither holds up, and all the vegetarians I've known (quite a few) are somewhere in the gray area of being fine with the idea of eating animals in theory, but concerned with various aspects of the existing meat industry.

I have my own problems and practical compromise: I eat seafood and fish (a lot of it), but no other meat. Different people have different rationales and choose to draw the line at different places. Associating PETA with all vegetarians is no better than assuming that all those who eat meat would never object to animal cruelty of any form. It just doesn't hold up.

@TheLonelyGamer: Don't forget Cooking Mama. They did one of her too.

@anyonedefendingPETAhere: What most people that casually stick up for PETA doesn't understand is they're absolutely insane.

Its not about simply promoting awareness or alternative lifestyle, that I'm all for. To PETA, its Animals>>>>>>>>>>>>Humans, no matter what and that is a crummy philosophy. I mean, who wants animal cruelty? No one, that's who, but they wish to impose their ideologies on everyone else and are willing to use violence to make a statement instead of using only peaceful protest.

I remember seeing somewhere where PETA members were willing to kill a man and his family, his children... because they believed he was an animal killer, that's freaking nuts, you can't condone that type of behavior.

It doesn't end there though, most casual defenders of PETA that are not part of the organization don't realize, they don't even want you to be allowed to have pets. For crying out loud, it doesn't matter if you care for or love them, they should be set free in their eyes, and what bothers me about that is its ignorant pet owners who are they type of people who love pets and donate to PETA.

The biggest thing that gets me is the hypocrisy. They don't want you to kill animals which I can understand, but the animals they "save" over half of them are killed by PETA at their headquarters, they would rather spend the money donated and raised by them on ad campaigns with ignorant movie stars or making a parody of a video game to push their agenda than actually helping animals turned over to them.

That's PETA and that's why it bothers me when ignorant people defend them. You've just been educated. Whatever though, I'm done talking about them in this thread. They put me in a bad mood.

Edit: Made it easier to read vs wall of text.
@Aviator: Thanks for that Navi(the comment below). That actually helped. =]

Tofu Boy in Super Meat Boy sucks. I can't even finish the first stage with him.

School was never in session, because I don't actually see anyone "defending PETA" in an unqualified way in this thread. I see TokyoRed sticking up for animal rights but agreeing that PETA's approaches are generally harmful, and I see a couple others saying that the Tofu parody just seems like a minor joke, rather than something to get worked up about.

Now, if you're better at writing walls of text than reading them, let's put school back in session with a handy cliffnotes guide to my big post above:

(1) the Tofu Boy parody is not such a big deal, and actually a fairly harmless little joke taken in context; you're letting your wider hatred of PETA distort one of the least problematic ads they've ever run.

(2) The one who is trying to make a big fight out of this is the Meat Boy designer, who is arguably twice as obnoxious as PETA in this case, for he's been goading PETA for months (see above), trying to set up a fight that wasn't there.

(3) PETA's bizarre insistence that all eating of animals is immoral doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but equally absurd are the counterarguments made in this thread, that eating animals is natural and therefore all of the existing practices of the meat industry are just fine. Actual vegetarians -- and I've known countless -- aren't against all eating of living things, they just disagree with the way it's being done in the existing industries.

I'm failing to see where anyone was ripping on vegetarians, warioswoods, or talking up how great the meat industry is regarding their methods of animal husbandry -- as I told TokyoRed before, we've been ripping on PETA. i know my mind isn't changed regarding their methods of advertisement just because they were apparently goaded by a few sockpuppets -- any moderator worth their salt would've been able to pick out the obvious trolling and call it like they saw it. that i would've applauded, calling the creator out over it and then blatantly not doing as he requested, but this is just the same BS they've always pulled, riding the (perceived?) popularity of others' hard work in order to earn the sympathy and eventually funds they need to destroy innocent animals that have been put into their 'no-kill' shelters behind closed doors. screw that. there are better organizations to donate to, and local shelters/organizations to volunteer at that are far more worthy of our time than PETA.

either way, they've gotten enough publicity out of us for now, and since everyone's trying to 'educate' each other, it's time to end it. :3
