Wii U is 2 years old already, and certainly has its road to go yet. But don't you imagine what's gonna be the next Nintendo?
Personally, I'd love if Nintendo got the 3rd party developers on board, created a platform with the best technology available. And suppose they reimagine the SNES controller. A modern SNES videogame, the same idea of variety of games as the SNES. =D
I would like a console with games as awesome as on Wii U, but with some changes in their policies, like unified account system, simple copying save files process and no gimmicks like motion controls. And if they must make something like GamePad, at least make sure it is fully utilized, and not completely avoided, not even considered in development by your own studios. And more Bayonettas of course.
I don't need Nintendo to make powerhouses machines - that's for what PC is and Sony/MS loosing money on every sale of the console.
Don't know why you thought about "indiestation". Anyway, I agree with the account thing. I definitely don't want gimmicks, unless they are used in games and fun to use.
About being a powerhouse, what I want is for 3rd party developers to come up with great versions of their games for Nintendo, instead of ports with poor performance. I also believe Nintendo could put the extra power to great use.
I really hope that they keep the GamePad. It has its share of haters but it's the system's defining characteristic and works really well. I'm personally enjoying the GamePad much more than I expected to.
The gamepad is awesome. It obviously has room for improvement, but it's by far my favorite Nintendo innovation of the past decade.
I still hope for a handheld / home console hybrid for the next generation, with a sleeker gamepad that functions as a portable by itself. Yes, there are a lot of hurdles to overcome (as in, how do you actually play the games on the go, if they're likely gonna be discs running on the actual home machine), but I'm confident they can find a way.
If they can streamline their development efforts into a single console, rather than two, I'm thinking they can save a lot of money while being a lot more prolific regarding first-party releases.
Plus, Pokémon on your flatscreen. You know you want it.
