I purchased Pac-Man for my wife a while back and she (or I) don't play it that much as the little guy is very hard to control around the maze. Has anybody else noticed that the controls aren't that good?
The issue is...right when the game starts off he starts moving himself. Then any time you are moving he will move until he hits a "wall". So, if you want to move him up or down in the middle of a long stretch it is difficult to time it right. I have the same issue with the wii-mote and a game cube controller.
Is this the first version of Pac-Man you've ever played? The reason I'm asking is because the game has always worked like that. It is certainly not specific to the VC/NES iteration. You just have to get a feeling for it. Frankly, I don't see anything difficult about it.

I use only the Wiimote for easiest and most comfortable fit. Its d-pad woks perfectly. Just make sure to press the direction where you want to go slightly before the turn, and you should be good to go.

Pac-Man!!!! It the most classic arcade game of all time, but it's totally surpassed by Ms. Pac-Man. Cool! wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka wokka "Feel free to stop me if I'm being annoying."

I use the classic controller and have not experienced any issues. I think the VC version is slightly slower than the speed of the arcade version. But its minor
I hate the control for the XBLA Pac-Man (not the CE, where the controls work perfectly), seems like the timing is off a bit, plus the 360 d-pad is horrid. But never had any problems with the NES port. That said, i am a bit of a Pac-Man purist (having been a huge fan of the game since the beginning), so i always prefer playing either the NES port with my NES Advantage (RetroUSB adapter FTW), or the plug-n-play joystick i have of the arcade version.
