Top five overrated franchises

3.Zelda
4.Halo
5.Castlevaina

Do we see a pattern here all those are super popular franchise so there for there overated. All of those games you can say all you do is repeat the same things over and the story isnt good or non existent. But thier not thes e are just five of the best and since good that why people like them.

Now whats overated are poorly animated 80's cartoons(G.I. Joe,Thundercats,Voltron,He-man,etc

I don't think you read the thread title. Overrated ganes. I can understand Sonic and Halo, but to call any other series overrated is crazy.

i don't they are either but i was saying how most people only call other games overrated if they havent played them or because their popular. 360 fanboys are thebiggest offenders to this with nintendo franchises.

Sonic isnt overrated because its really universally hated. sonic 1-3 and sonic & knuckles are the best games in the series and this is coming from someone who didnt play them till about 2006 after played the 3D ones.

Oh okay... Didn't read the second part. My bad.

Halo, it's an okay series but its just another FPS.

No, it really isn't. It set the standard for modern day shooters, and it proved that FPS can work well on consoles. It was revolutionary.

Everyone has deferring taste dude besides from my point of view at least no offence to nobody but Super Metroid to me at least is 100% better then a Link to The Past do to a like platforming games more then free roaming games. And as for overrated games are concern's it depends on what you like.

I found Kirby Canvas Curse to be overrated, BUT LET ME EXPLAIN: I just couldn't quite grasp the concept of "Kirby being controlled by Stylus," and the ink from which you create with the stylus to guide Kirby is not infinite. The music I found sounding quite hokey, though I do appreciate that some music and enemies come from Kirby's Dream Land 3 (imo, the best, if not the best, Kirby game). The graphics are beautiful.
Maybe I'm just being too hard on it. Maybe I should give it the light of day again one day.

Like RandomWiiPlayer said, Halo set the standard for modern day shooters. And that is precisely the problem.

Sonic games, as well as Castlevania games, have great narratives. Mario certainly doesn't, and neither does Halo. Zelda has one, but it's so cliched I can't say I care.

I agree with castlevaina but how does halo not have a great narrative?

Half of the game -- the game spans 3 discs. I was on the middle of the second disc. Probably about 30 hours of playtime. I think I played enough to make an informed opinion.

And obviously if you're not a highschooler than my original comment doesn't apply to you, so yeah stop acting like I insulted you and move on dude.

I'm sorry that you are struggling so hard to comprehend this, but I have already said twice (and now a third time) that I did not assume you were talking to me, so I really have nothing to "move on" from, "dude." Also, I know what half of the game means. But you're the one who said one can't play half of FF7 and make a claim as to if it's overrated or not, not me.

But just for the record, Mario is only fun to play. Everything other aspect (from the recycled voice overs, to the repetitious storytelling) of it is of the lowest quality imaginable.

A game that is only fun to play? What good is that?!

What am I suppose to do with this game that is only fun to play? Play it or something? That's crazy talk!

Playing a game... who ever heard of such things?

Didn't Goldeneye do that?

Yup.

In a way, yes it did, but if you tried to compare most modern day shooters to Halo and Goldeneye, you will find a lot more similarities in Halo than Goldeneye. Halo just did it better I guess, not to say Goldeneye isn't a bad game.

Thing is though, most people in this thread have agreed that Halo is an average shooter, that is probably the most overrated game of all time. It's been mentioned the most, anyway.

Goldeneye is far superior to Halo. Halo did nothing better.

Halo has better mutiplayer then goldeneye, but comparing an xbox game to a N64 game is pretty poinless they were both revloutionary for there era. Goldeneye said a console FPS is possible and do able, while halo took that and gave us a pc shooter on a console.

Wow, have you even played the game before? I don't think Goldeneye had online multiplayer, or vehicles. It did everything Goldeneye could, and more. But I still agree that it is overrated.

Super Mario World is overrated.
Okay, maybe not. But I think Super Mario Bros. 3 is superior, if only you could save.
Playing through all 8 worlds without using a whistle in one day is just not feasible.

And yes, clearly Halo is a detriment to the gaming world. It ruined FPSes forever, clearly! Please.

Err, did Halo have online? I know 2 and 3 did, but I don't remember it for the original.
