Ahem! I certainly don't. If you think Ocarina is terrible then there's no hope for you, I'm afraid. It is still easily one of the greatest games of all time.

If you think Ocarina of Time holds up under today's standards then there's no hope for you, I'm afraid.

There's no hope for either of you. :/ OoT isn't the greatest game ever, not by a long shot, but it's still well above the bar, evenfor a Zelda game.
Granted, that bar was set by Zelda II, but still.[/quote/]

I agree completely. Is it the best game ever? No. Does it still hold up pretty well, especially on 3DS? Yes.

Yeah, the graphics just don't hold up. The 3DS port is much better. And Majora's Mask somehow aged much better.

But did it really age better? Sure it's huge differences compared to the rest of the Zelda series make it stand out and help it age better. But it lacks in so many areas compared to modern Zelda games and even some games before that. Sure it's different and still good, but I think it aged as well as most all Zelda games.

OOT's entire problem isn't that it's aged badly (for an N64 game, it's aged astonishingly well tbh), it's that basically every game afterwards did similar things except better and more creative because OOT was too influential to be interesting in 2014.

It's the Dragonball of video games basically.

The graphics aren't the reason OoT routinely winds up in lists of the greatest games of all time.

Graphics age. Gameplay doesn't. The only reason it doesn't feel like it holds up is because practically every Zelda game since has copied OoT's formula. So now it feels like it's a rehash, when it fact it's the original hash.

Gameplay wise it's literally OOT but with new gimmicks, but I would be hard-pressed to think of a Nintendo game (barring Mother 3) whose storytelling was so unquestionably well done. Mainly because it's semi-subtle and uses it's silly 3 day gimmick to create a more believable world.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

More or less, this is why I contend that OoT is still the best 3D Zelda, even with newer games supposedly "improving" on the formula. The only mechanic that I think well and truly improved the OoT formula was the A button countering in Wind Waker. Everything else has been just different, not better or worse, or unnecessary flair. Finishing moves didn't even make Twilight Princess a better game, let alone Ocarina of Time.

I also feel that it still has the best overall dungeon design and its OST is still in the top 5 of all time.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

MM and OoT had some of the best story's in all of Zelda. That's another reason why they've stood the test of time.

What makes OoT's story better than any other game's?

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

Lol. Ocarina of Time had a pretty standard storyline. Princess gets kidnapped by bad guy. Go after bad guy and rescue princess, but only after getting a bunch of certain artifacts (in this case sages). There are amazing games out there that have fantastic stories and Ocarina of Time REALLY isn't one of them. None of the Zelda games are, but Ocarina of Time was barely different to the rest of them anyway.

Overrated:

  • Mutant Mudds (3DS eShop)
  • Game & Watch Gallery (GB)
  • Most early NES games (I can respect what games like the original SMB, Metroid, and TLoZ did for their time, but I personally don't find them very fun to go back to, despite SMB being the first game I'd ever played)

Underrated:

  • Bugs VS Tanks (3DS eShop)
  • Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
  • Mobile Light Force 2/ Castle of Shikigami III (PS2)
  • Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (3DS)
  • Samurai Warriors: Chronicles (3DS)
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the Crystal Bearers (Wii)
  • Metroid II: the Return of Samus (GB)

I got to say, FFCC:TCB was too different from the basic Formula of the FFCC and made a lot of fans dislike it due to that. In the end I felt like if it had a different title, it wouldn't become that overated. (Bad sequel hook ending though)
Just saying though.

The Megaman Battle Network series is underrated... I think, don't quote me on this.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but if it were released today, even with modern graphics, I wouldn't expect it to even be in the top 100 games of all time.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Overrated:
Donkey Kong Country games (played original SNES one and gave DKCTF a whirl due to good reviews and time dulling memory of the original), I find them really tedious to play

Underrated:
Final Fantasy Legend on the Gameboy, love that game can't understand why it's rated as the worst of the trilogy. I think it has by far the best story

Back in the day it was fantastic though. Since then It's gotten repetitive ad standard, but back then it was an epic, coming of age story.

Like I said, by todays standards, it's nothing special.

I was never a big fan of Donkey Kong Country, it felt like i was playing a Primitive NES game with unique cutting edge visuals. The next gen gameplay wasn't there like it was with Super Mario World for ex, it was just a visual dazzler with a superb soundtrack. I didn't find it that fun, there was just something cheap feeling about it...

Overrated: Gunstar Heroes(B-o-r-i-ng, Contra Hardcorps was wayyy better), No More Heroes 1 & 2, TMNT IV: Turtles in TIme(Great game, but TMNT II: The Arcade game deserves way more praise), Soul Calibur 2, Okami, Dead Space: Extraction, House of the Dead Overkill, Eternal Darkness, Geist, Killer 7, Alladin(Genesis), Earthworm Jim, Starwars(SNES games)

Underrated: Kid Niki Radical Ninja, Mega Man & Bass, Friday the 13th(NES), T & C Surf Design

Jesus, I remember Mega Man & Bass (Rockman & Forte) is like a hardest Mega Man game ever. It's still a great Mega Man game especially the Super Famicom Port. Also, I've wonder why Rockman and Forte names are changed to Mega Man and Bass on International release. ._.

Cave Story is the best retro-style indie game and,IMO,beats all the recent "modern retro" games indie developers have to offer and is why I say it is an underrated game.I just found everything in it superb and it's one of my most favorite games of all time.

Currently playing:A little bit of everything :D
Fan of:Adventure Time,The Legend of Korra,The Amazing World of Gumball,Regular Show,Futurama, and gaming on handhelds, consoles, and the PC.

Bravely Default is way too overrated. It's just an RPG with an option to defend.
For underrated, I have to say Kid Icarus: Uprising, Phoenix Wirght, Professor Layton and Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Just off the top of my head, I'm sure a lot are missing here.
