It was amazing for very well-documented reasons when it came out. It's still a good game today, but it is too flawed to be THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME, as fanboys like to call it. Isn't it enough to recognize its place in history and acknowledge its sizable influence on subsequent and greater games?
I attribute it to lack of nostalgia, really. My first run-in with the game was on that Collector's Edition Gamecube disc that came with the Master Quest version, so I didn't get to experience it when it was this big deal.
The remake for the 3DS is quite beautiful looking, though, and fixes a few of my problems with the original.
Overrated: Sonic Adventure 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Pokemon X, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Mario Kart 7, NES Mega Man games, Sonic Heroes, Super Mario Bros. 3
Underrated: Wario Ware D.I.Y (does anyone even have this game?), Super Mario 3D World, Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon
I respectfully disagree on some of these. For one, most people I know seem to hate Sticker Star and Sonic Heroes a lot. As for the other games, with the exception of the NES Mega Man games, Super Mario 3, and Sonic Adventure 2 aren't necessarily over or under rated; they're just good games that people talk about, since a good chunk of them are relatively new.
How is Paper Mario Sticker Star overrated?
Yes, Sticker Star does get a lot of hate. It's just that the people who praise it, give it too much praise. I've seen some people say Sticker Star is the best Paper Mario game. That's like saying Mario's Time Machine is the best Mario game on the SNES.
Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf
Overrated:
1.) The SIMs series
2.) Madden
3.) Need for Speed series (Except for Underground 2 and the original 3 Hot pursuits)
4.) Street Fighter IV
5.) Skyrim .
6.) GTA 5
7.) Silent Hill 2
Underrated:
1.) Spirit Tracks
2.) Mega Man Starforce series
3.) Luigi's Mansion 1 and 2
4.) Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team.
5.) Hot Wheels Velocity X
6.) Super Monkey Ball 2
Thats all I got right now, also I'm surprised that I haven't seen Half-Life, or an MGS title.
Capcom at E3: Guys we're sorry about how we've been treating Mega Man so we're gonna make it up to you by releasing the Mega Man Cancelled Collection with all the titles we cancelled in the condition they we're in just before we pulled the plug. Now who wants Street Fighter X Monster Hunter?
Sonic Adventure 2 (Some Sonic fanboys called it the best sonic game ever. it's seriously ISN'T the Best sonic game, Sonic CD is the best Sonic game ever IMO.)
Call of Duty (Why in the heck NO ONE mentions this?)
Ocarina of Time (Do I even need to explain?)
Underrated:
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (I don't understandwhy its gets so much hate. This game seriously need more love.)
Kirby Air Ride (Same reason for DK: Jungle Beat)
LOZ: Twlight Princess (People complained about this game because they said It's "Too Realistic." Does graphics even matter? Sure you can have a game that has like the Best graphics and have a crappy Gameplay. Seriously people, it like I'm the only one who thinks gameplay matters a lot than graphics. Just being Honest.)
Super Mario Sunshine
Mario Kart Double Dash
Yoshi's Island DS (This is so UNDERRATED than the Original.)
Luigi's Mansion
EDIT: I fixed an Error when I was explaining about Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. (The error is Underrated without even realizing it. I chnaged it to understand.
Also, no one mentioned Call of Duty (I'm assuming Drobotic is nobody now. Living up your avatar, man) because that horse has been beaten, buried, decomposed, turned into plant food, sucked up, eaten by another horse, and then beaten again, eaten by coyotes, who were then beaten and turned the rug on which the next series of horses to be beaten will be born.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Looks like everyone here agrees that Ocarina of Time is terrible. Hooray.
Ahem! I certainly don't. If you think Ocarina is terrible then there's no hope for you, I'm afraid. It is still easily one of the greatest games of all time.
If you think Ocarina of Time holds up under today's standards then there's no hope for you, I'm afraid.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

There's no hope for either of you. :/ OoT isn't the greatest game ever, not by a long shot, but it's still well above the bar, even for a Zelda game.
Most early NES games (I can respect what games like the original SMB, Metroid, and TLoZ did for their time, but I personally don't find them very fun to go back to, despite SMB being the first game I'd ever played)
Underrated:
Bugs VS Tanks (3DS eShop)
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
Mobile Light Force 2/ Castle of Shikigami III (PS2)
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (3DS)
Samurai Warriors: Chronicles (3DS)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the Crystal Bearers (Wii)
Metroid II: the Return of Samus (GB)
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Granted, that bar was set by Zelda II, but still.
OOT's entire problem isn't that it's aged badly (for an N64 game, it's aged astonishingly well tbh), it's that basically every game afterwards did similar things except better and more creative because OOT was too influential to be interesting in 2014.

It's the Dragonball of video games basically.
Yeah, the graphics just don't hold up. The 3DS port is much better. And Majora's Mask somehow aged much better.
I wouldn't call VVVVVV underrated, it's probably one of the more notable indie games out there.
But Link's Awakening deserves more love. It's storytelling is way better than it has any right to be and barring maybe Minish Cap is probably my favorite designed 2d Zelda.
Though at the same time Link's Awakening has probably sold 10 times the amount VVVVVV has so...
