Parts of the old Donkey Kong Country cartoon were genuinely good and memorable (in particular, the use of its characters and several of the songs). I don't mean "not garbage!" good, I mean "actually well-made" good. I also think bits of the animation (not the models/lighting, but the way the characters' expressions are animated) are still nice.
I thought the show as a whole was fun... It has some clever writing and aside from a couple of the later songs nothing is unbearably awful, even though the animation looks laughably dated and has some strange movements and most arcs (like Skurvy being Klump's brother) got quickly abandoned. It's not a masterpiece by any stretch, but it's a fantastic guilty pleasure to me.

I never liked Game Grumps.

I think JonTron is pretty hit-or-miss.

I like ChipCheezumSA better than Retsupurae.

Utter madness! Star Wars was the most ambitious movie ever made upon release. Terminator 2 is tied with Die Hard as the best action movie of all time. And the new Star Trek movies are fairly good but just action films and fly in the face of the whole point of what Star Trek stood for, completely losing what set it apart from nearly every other sci-fi.

•Not ALL of the things in the Starwars prequel trilogy were that bad (clones, the battles, the lightsaber duels, etc)
•2,3,4,5, and 6 have added well, but the phantom menace aged the worse out of all the Starwars movies
•GTA is Soooooo overrated
•E-Sports are a skill competition, not a sport (similar, but not quite a sport. Think of archery)
•Super Smash Bros is the best fighting game of all time
•Brawl wasn't that bad and it is way better than N64.

I think they are two completely different kinds of football, and I love them both. The lack of defense is a little annoying.

Most competitions are not sports by any definition, and this does not necessarily make them less important either.

Star Wars trilogy was a pioneer when it first was released, but by now, it's all trite. And the films haven't aged as well as most people claim. They're mediocre.

A New Hope has aged terribly. It's really not that impressive of a film. The storyline has been done 100 times, the villains are done poorly, and there were a number of plot holes. But Empire is genuinely amazing. Jedi was never that well received.

Anyway, a new batch:

-Kids aren't bad in mature live action films and TV, as long as they are relevant. Kids are easy to sympathize with and are generally regarded as innocent. A great example are Benji Flemming and Julie Teeger on Monk. They don't appear in every episode, but they totally work well in the context of the episodes they are in. In film, 7-year-old Jaden Smith's Christopher Jr. was an awesome element of Pursuit of Happyness. The only example I've personally seen of a kid done poorly is in Gotham, where I still don't get why Bruce Wayne is even in the show.

-Speaking of Batman, Christian Bale really isn't that good as Batman in the Nolan trilogy. Maybe it was the grizzly bear voice, but something about his Batman just didn't click with me

-Mark Webb should join Joel Schumaker and Mark Steven Johnson on the list of directors who should never touch a Superhero movie ever again.

-Benedict Cumberbatch is not a good actor. He can literally play one role, that role is Sherlock.

This isn't really unpopular, but it's an opinion of mine:

-Jaime Foxx bears a striking resemblance to Malcolm X, he needs to play him in a movie.

Listen was not that good a Doctor Who episode. I even preferred Robot of Sherwood to it.

The only bad Jurassic Park movie was Jurassic Park 3.

New Hope holds up really well specifically the scenes on the death star and Han as a whole.

I agree that Bale was a pretty medicore Batman, the problem being they focused on him being a Brawler with a ton of money sntead of the World's greatest detective part. Bale does a really good Bruce Wayne tho.

The thing is that A New Hope falls into incredibly common archetypes. The storyline is very similar to other stories like Avatar, Ender's Game (the book), Dances with Wolves, etc. Also, IMO, Star Wars' characters really shine much more in Empire. Han, Luke, and Leia are okay, but they never blew me away in A New Hope. But the thing that REALLY bothers me about A New Hope is how the Obi-Wan/Vader fight ends. It doesn't make any sense. Obi-Wan doesn't become more powerful as a force ghost, and had Obi-Wan not died, Luke would likely have been able to train more easily (and the Rebel Alliance would likely have a powerful ally). So why Obi-Wan went up against Vader, barely tried to win, and then gave up is baffling to me.

It's not bad, by any means, but I don't find it as cracked up as people say it is.

-Pirates 4 is the worst of the series. It felt like an excuse to shoot action scenes. At least Pirates 2 and 3 TRIED to have an interesting plot.
-Kaldur'ahm's Aqualad >>>>>>> Garth's Aqualad and Aquaman. The latter two aren't hydrokinetics, and they can't make like Greninja and create swords made out of water. Nuff said.
-Season 1 of House of Cards is better than Season 2.

Oh god, I agree with this so much @SpookyMeths

I think the best way to judge to quality of pop music in an era is to look at the number of xmas tracks that it spawned that are still played each year. People are always trying very hard to create classic xmas tunes because of the huge amount of recurring revenue they produce, so it's a good gauge of what the best of that era can produce. If there's not much there then it says that era was not that strong (this metric puts the naughties in a really bad light but I stand by it).

I enjoyed Pirates 4 to a point, but even as someone who loved the trilogy, it's not that good. It was apparently at some point supposed to be more than one movie, and it shows so much.

His Dark Materials is poor (mainly The Subtle Knife, Golden Compass was just meh, and I never read Amber Spyglass)
Maybe it just isn't for me, but I was so bored by it, I could hardly keep up with anything.
I kept reading in the hope I would like it more later, because I did like some of the ideas, but I just ended up hating it...

Egoraptor hasn't done anything good in ages.
Danny and Ross are the only things keeping game grumps good.
Sony had the leak coming
They need to make a Xenoblade movie series a la Lord of The Rings; I have an idea on how it could work.
Lets players are 90% bad; the other 10% lean more towards video walkthrough with a bit of gushing; like Chuggaaconroy.
The game industry seems so bad at the moment because we are going to be having a 2015 that will make 2007 and 2004 look puny.
Team Fortress 2 has only a short life left in this engine.
Half Life 3 is getting announced next year.
Dark Souls is the only good one in the series.
UbiArt is the only good thing Ubisoft has left.

This the non-gaming thread jsyk.

But the two bolded points really caught my eye. While I don't think a Xenoblade movie would work, I think a Xenoblade TV series would be awesome. With the number of sidequests with full sideplots Xenoblade has, it could fit well into an episodic format.

I'm sort of with you on the LPers. The LPers that I like are generally the ones that focus on informing about the game. I think the reason why is that it allows the player to maintain focus on the game at hand, rather than rambling on about either stupid or irrelevant stuff. Chuggaaconroy is great. When he has something the say that's not informative, it's actually meaningful. Also, he does a ridiculous amount of research, and really knows what he's talking about. I can't tell you how many times I've played a game, then watched his LP and though "OH, SO THAT'S HOW IT WORKS".
