As @MasterWario said, blender is modeling software, so you could probably use some fancy particle effects and the compositor for some cool transitions.
It probably won't be the most simple program but there are workarounds for everything.
I'm not sure how long it would take to learn the video editing parts. I've been messing around with the program since I was 10 or 11 and have picked up most of Blender's features by accident, so I'm not sure of the learning curve. It might be worth a try though if you're on a budget.
