At least out to the near future, I can't see it happening.....seriously, who wants to sit in the living room with this huge, clumsy looking VR set on your head? So outside of any concerns regarding the needed hardware to support it, or the best ways to capture movement and controls, aesthetically and from a comfort aspect, I think it's just unappealing. I'm pretty sure my GF would dump me on the spot if she came into my apartment and I was flailing around with this on my head, and I couldn't blame her either.
People like to sit down on their couches and experience games in a relaxing manner, so I just find it hard to buy the hype,...it's obnoxious like google glass.....and like that, from a technology standpoint it may have many uses, but entertainment wise? I'm not seeing it.
Anything tech that gets put over the face has a couple hurdles to overcome. I don't think VR will penetrate quickly even with marvelous functionality although I do see tech that goes over the face an inevitable thing within a decade's time.

I don't know, I do see your point, but with tech on your face, damn it, why don't you just use your smart phone or watch TV? Do you need to be that withdrawn into social networking or some likewise BS, that you need a tablet glued to your face?
I am sure that it will find its audience just like so many other things. For me though the moment that games start using this technology is the day I stop buying new consoles. For me gaming is just sitting on the couch with a controller in hand. I am not even that big on motion controls like the Wii or Kinect.

Yeah, I'm not really keen on what I've seen from Oculus and the like. I think VR needs further refinement in form factor and the display and optics tech, like perhaps eye-tracking control input. Still lots of R&D left there. We've enjoyed audio technology for our ears like headphones and earbuds for awhile. I just think its only a matter of time before we find that wearing tech over our eyes becomes just as desirable, practical, useful and socially acceptable. But from what we've seen from oculus/Morpheus or even google, I personally don't think we've arrived at that solution yet.
