It honestly irritates me that politicians feel the need to "reign in" the vulgarities you already know they're spouting off-camera. We've all done it and so have they. Better on the record than off the record to make it sound like some sort of a "scandal" when it really isn't. It's human.

@theblackdragon - it sounds to me like one of the daily press briefings the administration holds, only that the prez attended and not just the press secretary. Or it could have been during his interview with CNBC. It was released by TMZ and ABC after all.
@SuperSonic1990 - just because it has the word "ass" in it doesn't mean it's a cuss word; it comes from the term for a donkey. I mean, when the Bible says that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on his ass, that doesn't mean that the Virgin Mary pong-tossed him and he skipped all the way there on his bottom.

Wow, I'm surprised to see so many people up in arms about this. Seems to me Obama just said what we were all thinking anyway. What's the big deal? Our president IS human you know. Poor guy has the hardest job in America, whether you like him or not, cut him some slack, geez!

it was an off-the-record part of an interview with ABC news, and a couple of the ABC reporters freaking twittered about it and it went from there; that's how it got out in the first place. with juicy tweets like "Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," of course TMZ would jump on that... that's probably why it snowballed so quickly. it was a completely unprofessional move... if the ones who tweeted about it haven't lost their jobs for this, i wouldn't be surprised to find out they won't ever be trusted with anything important for ABC for quite a while. don't they have confidentiality agreements in the contracts they sign before they're hired there? after all, they do interview very high-profile individuals; there's got to be all kinds of off-the-record crap that could blow up on Twitter just like this.
his full statement seems to have been more like "The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person, she's getting her award ... What's he doing? He's a jackass,"... a perfectly natural thing to say after watching Kanye do that. :/
