I agree with everything kkslider has said, except I watched it for much longer and still ended up with the same opinion.
As for why no one talks about it, it's usually one of three things:
1) It's not that good of a show
2) It was a Shounen anime with cross-gender appeal and the majority of its fans are girls
3) It was popular a while ago and now I guess most figure it's been talked about enough
There's also a good possibility that a lot of Inuyasha fans don't actually watch any other anime. I know some people that watch Bleach and nothing else. I knew a guy who watched Naruto and nothing else. There are tons of people who watch Dragon Ball Z and nothing else. It really wouldn't surprise me, though it does disappoint me, if quite a few Inuyasha fans never feel any inclination to try any other anime that they might like.
The show was obviously big at one point (it was a huge hit on AS, and at one point I believe fans would actually riot on AS's website if they were planning on taking it off the schedule)
Funny story I've heard about this. Apparently after a while ratings were pretty bad and when they put the show back on, ratings didn't go up and those people admitted they just wanted it to be on tv for the sake of it being on tv rather than actually watching it. So basically, fans complained about an anime possibly not being on tv that they never watched on tv.
I'd say what my opinion of those "fans" (not enough quotation marks in the world) is, but it would just be self-censored words over and over again.
