What sucks is that along with Firefly anything I actually liked with actors from it there is hardly any of but the absolute rubbish there is loads of it.

If you haven't already seen it, Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog has Nathan Fillion (captain tight pants himself) as a villain, and it just so happens to be a great film.
I was bored at work one night and watched the first episode on Netflix. Since then, I bought the series and movie on bluray and have watched through them several times. I've introduced the series to as many people as I can too. I'll tell anyone that will listen to watch Firefly!

And yes, Shepherd's Tale is quite good. I'd also recommend Leaves on the Wind, which takes place after Serenity. Well-written, and just overall cool to see a continuation of the universe's continuity (though the absence of both Book and Wash is of course upsetting )
Has anyone been reading the current comic book series? Is it any good?
There is no ongoing series. Leaves on the Wind (which i mentioned above) was a 6-issue limited series that came out last year. It was rather good, and worth checking out. It starts up after the movie and follows the fallout from the events of the film, and is considered the official in-canon continuation of the series (and actually, i believe all the comic series are considered canon).

oh, I thought I heard there was a ongoing comic book series that was its own cannon as it retold some story elements and replaced others. I could be wrong, I wasn't following it that closely. I love Firefly but it is hard for me to get excited about anything Firefly related that doesn't include Joss Whedon himself.
