With the release of OoT 3D just around the corner, the NintendoLife Game Club is hosting a group playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! You are welcome to play the game on your 3DS, Wii VC, Gamecube or N64. We are discussing our thoughts, experiences and questions about and eventually giving our reviews of the game in this thread. If you want to take part, please read the first post in our club thread for instructions on how to get club announcements.
Please keep discussion about the game. You can discuss the club itself in the club thread.
I got my copy a day early, so I decided to test it. I stopped when I got to the part where you start controlling Link (because I want to beat Link's Awakening before I start playing for real). The 3D graphics are absolutely beautiful! Seriously, I was in awe the entire time. When I actually play it, I'll probably end up just staring at the environments and the characters half of the time.
It's not out in Australia til the 30th. That's half the session time gone And it's not the same playing the N64 one. I don't think I will be able to go back to that again.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Oh, I didn't know that. We'll extend the session half a month longer until July 31st then. Nintendo of Australia is silly. ):
I'm going to download OoT on the VC tonight. Excited!
Count me in! I've joined the Google group, and will be buying the 3D version later today. Fascinating update: I've just bought it and it's so beautiful a single tear fell from my eye. I have both Pilotwings and Street Fighter, but so far OoT is the only game where the 3D is truly noticeable, for me at least. @Tech101 Is that the Outlaw Star I see in your avatar?
Well I am amazed. Ive just played it for 1 and a half hours and its awesome. Things were popping out of the screen (YES OUT OF THE SCREEN CRITICS) and things were fluttering round in the background. Now time for a rest as my eyes are really aching. Im upto chapter 2 and will start working on that tomorrow. PS: 21:42 here in UK
After playing it on VC for a bit I can see why people said OoT was the best game of all time when it came out (and long afterwards). The world interactions. combat and cinematics are all well ahead of its time. I can see how a lot of action-adventure games got inspiration from OoT. Thinking about it today, games haven't really come that far since OoT, have they? A lot of these sorts of cinematic cutscenes and context-sensitive actions (like grabbing ledges, etc.) are still seen today in games like Batman: Arkham Asylum, Doom 3 and God of War - just with a bit more pizazz, that's all. And, sure, the graphics are pretty dated but not nearly as bad as I was expecting.
I'm only at the start (the Deku Tree, and explored a bit of The Lost Woods) but the level design so far has been well-planned and pretty creative. I definitely like the feeling that the game isn't holding my hand with destination arrows and endless tutorials like many games these days. The search for the starting sword had me stumped for a little while, even.

Sorry, but what exactly do you mean by chapter 2? Do you mean the second dungeon? I'm so confused D': EDIT: Aha, thanks for clearing that up. I was just curious.
This is only going to be my second play through since it first came out 13 years ago. I've started games over the years and never finished them due to something else coming out. I'm really looking forward to this one with the updated graphics and 3d can't wait to get started!!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Pikmaniac02 I mean Ive just got past the opening dungeon.
*Spoiler Alert* I have now spoke to Zelda and Im in the village. I cant remember the name of but just before the mountain. How does everyone find it so far. Im loving it and cant wait for the americans to get it so its not just me on the discussion thread
As beautiful as this game is, my eyes feel as if they're about to implode. Currently at the Goron village place, which is all pretty swish. Soundtrack is as lovely as ever, somehow even more noticeable now. And that about sums up my report so far~
Okay guys, i'm in. I got the 3DS version on Friday and the mail that i'm sure get my sountrack- CD too, woohoo. I haven't had much time to play yet so i'm only done with the Deku-Tree dungeon. I mean i don't wanna ruin the experience by rushing anything anyway so i'm totally fine with that.
I played the game first on the GameCube around the time when The Windwaker was released. Didn't know how lucky i was to get this special edition back then. If i remember correctly i finished Wind Waker before i started Ocarina. I had some rough time getting into its 3D world, knowing where to go and figuring out some of the puzzles. I found it hard to bear the washed out, quite undetailed textures and that the controls didn't feel as smooth as in Wind Waker so that might have something to do with it too. I got stuck in the Fire Temple and was very frustrated, gave up and decided to give the game another try sometimes. As you might guess i never really tried again until Friday.
Well maybe this will convince me to pick up where I left off on the GCN version. I never left the forest temple. After I defeated all of the poes I was confused as to what to do. I promisedmyself I wouldn't use a walkthrough so I guess I'll just do what I usually do when I'm stuck on a puzzle. Stand in the most recently unlocked room and look around till I see something worth mentioning
I got a sexy deep v-neck and I'm not afraid to use it XD
