Welcome to the NL Community Game Project, also known as 'that game with a squirrel in it,' also known as 'MAN SQUIRREL LOL.'

Our aim here is to build a platforming adventure game for PC, written in Delphi. The project was started by and overall control falls to KaiserGX, the programming will be handled by Yai, and project management by me, Raylax. You already know what this is about if you've been following the other thread.


We're currently at Planning Phase. That means nothing has been settled on yet. Please do not post random ideas related to level layout, enemy placement, fiddly mechanics, et cetera. We'll get to that in brainstorming. Infact, for the time being, the majority of decisions are going to be between KaiserGX and Yai. Current tasks:

  • Project Scope - This one's mainly for KaiserGX, you're probably going to have to crack open a Word document. Give us a rough idea of the type of game you're aiming for (you'll need to be more detailed than 'platformer'), expected length, probable graphical direction, that kind of thing. Just so everyone knows where we're coming from.
  • Hero design - Concept sketch, rough idea of abilities. Nothing too in-depth, we don't want to corner ourselves into something that doesn't work out a few weeks down the line.
  • Staff allocation - This is where everyone else gets involved. Everyone who wants to be in on this project seriously, go and make something. A graphic, a short bit of music, a bit of storyline or script. Take your time on it, make it good. From there, we can choose who's most capable to be the lead in their area. Note that we are not looking for programmers.

Planning Phase Deadline: 2 weeks (Friday 4th February). We probably won't need anything like that time, but it gives us breathing space.

Oh yeah, keep an eye on this thread. Anything that you need to be aware of will be right here.

Oh yeah, if anyone's wondering why the story and other creative stuff hasn't been put in the OP, it's because I'm trying to detract attention away from those aspects until we get to that phase of the project. They'll be added later. When it comes to making stuff to get on the staffing list, remember that it doesn't have to be related to the game at all. In fact, chances are it won't go in the game. So just let your imaginations go wild and make whatever you want :3

I hate to be the one to burst bubbles, but this is the time when y'all need to have your own private space for this project. Just like the problem with the Google Document, hosting this kind of thing on an open forum invites deliberate trolling and/or eventual derailment by well-meaning users who want to ask questions or contribute in some form or fashion.

In the interests of all involved, please start the real work on this project elsewhere. A Facebook community would be one possible option now that you guys are getting serious about things... you could also set up a mailing list or a LiveJournal community if you like; any of those options would not only give you the power you need to keep everything on track and moving forward steadily, well as provide a safe haven for people who are already working on the project and don't want outside distractions.
