01Net is continuing its Nintendo related rumours but this time they’re stating that the Kyoto based company is effectively stealing ideas from external sources and marketing them off as their own. Pretty powerful accusations…
"The concept of Pikmin, for example, was borrowed directly from an unpublished RTS (real-time simulation game) proposed by a creators years before the game’s release. Thus, the official story (Miyamoto got the idea for Pikmin by observing animal life in his garden) is just a clever narrative, fabricated for marketing purposes. Mario Galaxy is another example. According to our source, three totally different versions/concepts had been proposed for what was then called “Mario 128”, but none of them made the cut. Nintendo then set its views on a promising prototype it had bought from an external source some time ago, added Mario and its friends, tweaked a thing or two, and… Here was Mario Galaxy!
According to our source, Nintendo is in possession of a gigantic treasure trove unlike any other, so far largely unexploited. This unique policy of colossal investments into game prototypes and game design concepts has to be fully put to use."
These guys are just trying to stir the pot of misinformation. Nintendo saying they came up with the ideas, and their explanations, is a lot more credible than 01Net and their "source".

NO! Nintendo would NEVER steal ideas from another company! Other companies steal from them!
Whoever spread these vicious lies should be dragged out and shot!

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I smell bull . Everyone tries to knock down Nintendo, and I don't really see what they achieve from it. I don't beleive for one minute that Nintendo 'stole' ideas of other companies. If you look at track records how many developers have copied Nintendo's ideas? It's a lot I know that, so why would they even consider stealing ideas off others? They've used ideas that other companies introduced, but they never stole those ideas and claimed them their own. It's like all the Sony fans saying that Sony themselves came up with the idea for motions. They never because the Power Glove for the NES is 'technically' motion, and that came out in the 80's.
Seriously, it says Nintendo "bought" prototypes. Regardless of whether or not this information is false I think "stealing" is a little misleading. Super Mario Bros 2 was a reworking of Doki Doki Panic afterall. I see nothing to call stealing here.

Doki Doki Panic was also made by Nintendo. NOA just added Mario characters to make it more appealing for western audiences.
Do they have proof that Nintendo stole anything? If not, then you have no right to claim such BS.
Nintendo may have been inspired by some games, but I don't think they took anything and claimed it as their own. Wouldn't the people who Nintendo "stole" from sue them or something a long time ago?
You mean then they have no right to claim such BS. He's just reporting the news, it's not his opinion. He even added "wtf" on the bottom.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Just reporting the news... read the first post before you say silly things. =/
BS. How dare they accuse Miyamoto of stealing the concept for Pikmin from someone else. I don't believe any of this for one second. Miyamoto and Nintendo in general, does NOT steal ideas. This makes Nintendo out to be some devil that hears a game pitched to them, turns it down, then makes it under the guise that it is their original idea. BS. Why make up such lies? If there is anyone in this industry that can be accused of lifting ideas, it is most absolutely not Nintendo! I wanna know what pathetic worm wrote this "article." Its one thing to bash Nintendo (And there is PLENTY of that) but to make up such awful lies like this is totally unacceptable...I'm shocked this site would sink so low. I was just starting to like them too...
So much changes from an original idea to a final game, not only does it not make much of a difference in the end, it makes it much more difficult to connect an original idea to a game. In the end, though, I'm not going to pay $50 for an idea or a prototype, I'm going to pay $50 for a game.
Even if they took the inspiration from someone else, if they had ANY idea how hard it is to execute video game ideas (just look at all those tons of mediocre games) they wouldn't be saying "added Mario and its friends, tweaked a thing or two". That thing or two is, oh I don't know, the entire game development.
I refuse to believe Nintendo stole the ideas, but even if they did, screw 01Net.
Um, lads. Taking an old prototype and spinning it into a commercial game is about as much "stealing" as Nintendo, Sony, Apple "stole" touch screen computing.
You all know touch screen computing was around long before Nintendo, Sony or Apple came along with their various devices, right?
Here's another one: Nintendo didn't invent glasses-free 3D. That was Sharp. In fact, Nintendo doesn't even MANUFACTURE those things now. A third party does. I think it might even be Sharp.
And here's another one: Nintendo didn't invent the chips that go into the 3DS, the DS, the Game Boy, or anything else. Nintendo puts them together, but the chips are the invention of ARM, AMD or Intel or whatever.
The same goes for Sony, Microsoft, Apple, and just about every other company out there. They pay for technology to use in their own inventions. They pay for game prototypes, middleware (Havok engine, for instance) and other software technology for use in their games. It's not theft, in any sense of the word.
This fantasy that Nintendo is some kind of Willy Wanka factory pumping out stuff in complete isolation, and Miyamoto wears a big purple hat and hand crafts every single element of every single game Nintendo makes, really, really needs to stop. Nintendo is just a business, and does the same things that every other business does. Unfortunately, because games journalists are rarely even qualified as journalists, let alone to pass comment on business, these fantasies just get spun out into the world with very little truth backing them up.
