Topic: Nintendo shutting down Wi-Fi services for Wii/DS

Considering that the online was both free and kind of bad (great for downloads, not so much for multiplayer), I'm fine with it.

As long as the Wii U keeps free online, I won't be upset. As for Pokémon and online Wii Games, the only thing I'm a little upset about is Pokémon and not even that much. Pokémon is more of a local thing to me and if I want to, there's online. The DS games before Black and White didn't use WPA wifi anyway, so I couldn't play those online and every time I jumped into a match with Black or White, the opponent would spam Substitute which made the match not fun.

Sure, I can see why people would feel burned by this, but I don't see a reason to sweat it. It's not like it's a paid service that you won't get a refund for.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Eh, still should have saw this coming, especially for a free service. Companies shut down servers all the time, MH3 being a good example. (and yes people complained a LOT about Tri's online being shut down, even after months of 3U's release. )

It's official, Megumi is now in love with crimsontadpoles and no one else....I mean, she still loves me and she's still one of my top waifus, but-...you know what just shut up.

now it makes a little more sense but I think it took long enough for the DS since 99.9999% of the DS games need a WEP key in the wifi

Yeah, though it's not the games that need WEP, it's the DS. If you play DS games on the 3DS, I'm pretty sure you can use wifi security that isn't WEP.

Wait, so we're going to be forced to wait for any VC titles that already came out, with the only alternative being going retro? And what about Wiiware? Dsiware is safe on 3DS, but Wiiware is dead as Doc Louis's PunchOut!! in a few months.

No. The shops are still going to opened. You can still download anything from those shops.

Nope, they still use their own settings (WEP)

I just thought "Wait a minute, couldn't Nintendo have just bought the NWFC servers from Glu Mobile?" I decided to look up more on it and found out Glu Mobile would have wanted a fee of billions of dollars (I mean "billions" as in a huge fraction of Nintendo's entirety) for Nintendo to pay before they could obtain the NWFC servers from them. The main reason why Nintendo made "Nintendo Network" separate from "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" must of been because Nintendo Network would be based at Nintendo itself unlike NWFC.

Really? Could have sworn I played B/W on my 3DS without WEP. I must be mistaken then.

I actually used WiFi and this is a really sad news. But since the Wii shop channel isn't affected then there's nothing much to be sad about, lol!

Any DSi-enhanced game can use WPA. Pokemon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 are DSi-enhanced so they can all use WPA.

I was hiding under your porch because I love you...

@NFreak007

Interesting. That explains my confusion then, thanks.

I think they are still unable to use the 3DS's wi fi settings though. I remember having to set up internet on B/W

Is there a third-part program like xlink kai that would allow you to play original ds games online even after the shut down?
