:Sigh: End of an era I guess. Oh well, so long as the stores aren't affected yet, I'll be fine.

So if I if I play Mario Kart Wii on the Wii U in Wii mode does that use the same server as the Wii or will I still be able to play it online as long as I use a Wii U?

Wii Mode uses Wii servers so those will also be affected.

Less than a year and a half ago did Pokemon Black and White 2 come out, and now it's losing every online feature? It has a user base of over 7 Million People, and they don't even give it 3 years for online support? That seems idiotic.
I really hope Nintendo Network is much more sustainable than this

Except they can now play online with all their mons in X and Y :)

As others have pointed out, this really sucks for Pokemon Black and White 2 owners. I don't see why they don't at least keep those servers running. The game hasn't even been out for 2 years. That's an awful decision.

Otherwise, the move makes sense. Nobody will even notice when the Wii's online play disappears.

Look at it from Nintendo's perspective. What do they gain from keeping the servers active? They don't make any money from these games anymore, so it doesn't make any business sense to keep them going. They could potentially "lose" fans...but in this case the fans would have overreacted. The fans can continue playing these types of games by buying the new ones, which benefits Nintendo more.

Eh, the DS Pokemon games sucked when it came to online anyways.

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...
Yet Another Update: Also Amber and Xiao Pai from Rune Factory 4.

While I certainly wouldn't expect Nintendo to keep the servers running out of the goodness of their hearts, is it really true that the DS Pokemon games have stopped bringing in money? I don't know the recent sale figures of B/W 2, but I would imagine they still sell moderately well. It's not like they were released ages ago. They are still the most recent Pokemon games on the DS; plenty of people haven't moved to the 3DS.

The amount of money Nintendo saves by shutting down the servers is probably negligible anyway. I just think it's a bit premature for Nintendo to drop online support for games that are still fairly relevant.

This is sad and pathetic. At least when Microsoft shut down the servers for the original Xbox, it was at least over four years after the Xbox 360 was released. This is very premature. I guess maybe getting into PC gaming isn't a bad idea after all.

And Nintendo trying to force people to upgrade is being anti-consumer, not pro-consumer. Both Sony and Microsoft know this.

I rather pay for superior online that lasts longer and is better than inferior online. Nintendo will never be at Sony's or Microsoft's level when it comes to online, so it would be hilarious to see Nintendo attempt charging for it's online services.

3DS has been out for 3 years, and most relevant Wii online games have newer versions coming out. :)

yeah the last 1st party online Wii game came long ago(almost as long as the 3DS has been around, maybe more)
correction the last 1st party online Wii game came even before the 3DS and the last 3rd party online Wii game came little after the 3DS.
