No speculation from me. I doubt there would be anything from a direct that would require a 24 hour maintenance. They probably have to do a lot of stuff in preparation for their upcoming services, so we'll probably be seeing this long maintenance all throughout the spring.
Yeah the only reason they even mention it on social media is because it's unusually long. So when people can't get online, and they google why, those twitter posts will be the first thing to pop up.
Their stock has been absolutely crushed since last week. Partially since their mobile reveal underwhelmed, and also got delayed. That is inexcusable. How the hell did that happen?!
Er...what @DarthNocturnal said. Also, about the delay, not everything goes to plan, buddy. I mean, yeah, they've been happening rather frequently lately, which sucks, but this is something people need to understand.
Why does everyone think it's coming out next year? Is it because of the rumors? They're just that: RUMORS. Plus, it would be a terrible idea, because they'd need more time than that to build up hype for the system.
I also have no doubts that third parties like EA will come back at least initially with Madden, FIFA, Battlefront, and Garden Warfare 2. These seem like safe bets. Activision will have Skylanders and COD. But Nintendo needs to DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to make sure they have a long term strategy to keep these games on the system annually.
...Okay, I'll give you that. Theyr'e going to have to do whatever it takes to get third parties back on board for the NX, and STAY on board.

If anything, Twilight Princess HD would most likely be the result of something to make up for the Zelda U delay.
If there is no Direct this week, then they may as well hold until the Game Awards in December and start teasing NX. While E3 will be when they show off with hands on gameplay, it will be announced well before then. We don't live in the E3 system announcement world anymore.
Why would they talk about the NX at the Game Awards? Nintendo said they wouldn't talk about it until next year!
Nintendo, even with the loss of Iwata, you all should be taking a hard look in the mirror and determine if you are the right people to lead this storied company. It's sad some of the people posting in here seem to have more coherent ideas about how to proceed without damaging the brand than the executives do.
Yeah, there are plenty of people out there who THINK they could run a company better, but that isn't always the case. Besides, let's just see what happens with Kimishima at the lead.

I really want Zelda U to stay a Wii U title, just so that the Wii U finally can have it's own proper Zelda game, but I definitely see where people are coming from. This is probably Nintendo's biggest budget title they've ever made, judging by the giant world in it, and it's coming to their lowest-selling console, which is really scary in terms of return on investment. Nintendo probably feels they have no choice but to offer it on another platform. It's definitely not going to be NX exclusive; I think Nintendo has to try to sell as many copies as possible.
@arronishere: Smash DLC always crashes the eshops but like @cookiex says there's future important reasons. Nintendo's worst situation would be a repeat of Christmas 2013.
@Grumblevolcano: Well they don't have a bunch of holiday bundles that include download codes rather than a physical copy or having the game pre-installed. They also aren't trying to launch a massive Pokemon cloud storage service on Christmas day. I think they'll be fine.
1.) Your absolutely right. Delays happen and that is unfortunate. Also though, how a company stock reacts is right or wrong an indication of how a company is performing. Public perception should be very important to Nintendo right now.
Well, public perception IS important, but still, investors are a rather fickle bunch. Whenever they get something they didn't expect/want, they go "That's it! We're done! There is clearly no money to be made here! I know this from a fact that does not exist!" Besides, it'll just go back up like always.
2.) NX launching next year is a rumor. At best someone's educated guess. But just looking at what they showed to date, and IF they did secretly meet with game developers at E3 during the Nintendo direct to discuss NX, I think they do that with 2016 in mind.
Plus all analyst point to 2016 for Nintendo to release NX, as they feel Wii U is on its deathbed. It is why assume so also, looking at their monthly sales of Wii U, it does look grim, by Nintendo standards. Keep in mind Wii U just outsold Dreamcast, and Dreamcast was only on the market 20 months. I like Wii U, but it has not performed well.
Alright. I don't see it happening from a logical standpoint, but hey. That's just me. Believe in what you want. However, I wouldn't use analysts as a reason to believe its happening, because they have a tendency to be wrong. As evidence, I present to you: Michael Patcher (SERIOUSLY! Why the Hell do people keep listening to this clown!?)
3. Zelda U, I am assuming it's is Wii U's largest game budget wise. If that's the case, they want a return on that investment. They aren't making games at this point to lose money on it. Would two million copies cover Zelda U's development cost and turned the type of profit Nintendo is looking for? I don't know the answer to it. But launching it as a cross gen game, seems like a safe way to recoup that money. I hope they don't leave Wii U owners behind on Zelda. If they did, I would assume it was because the Wii U couldn't handle whatever they were creating for NX.
But there's no evidence to support the theory that they would do that other than "It's delayed to 2016. I know for a fact that's when the NX is released based on nothing. Zelda U on NX, baby!" Again, believe what you want, but I just don't see it happening.
4. If they wanted to gain mass attention from the gaming core, the game awards is not a casual thing. Show a trailer or an tease about NX, it would garner buzz going into 2016 for when it's announced. The worst thing that could happen to Nintendo is to not be in people's conscience and not build any hype for NX.
...Wouldn't releasing a trailer count as announcing it? Anyways, I just don't see it happening.

It might sell well on the Wii U when it releases, but it's not an unrealistic idea for Nintendo to cross release it on NX to maximize profits. Look at the size of that field in the VGA trailer! That must be really expensive to design and program for...
That said though, I just want to see the looks on those faces when Zelda U isn't an NX launch title (Heck, I don't even know what the NX is). The complaining and whining that would ensue! XD

I can guarantee you that most of us have no idea how to run a company, ideas or no ideas. We can say what we wish would happen, but ultimately there is more than just simply saying "Just do this Nintendo!"
