Hey everyone! Recently my gamepad stopped working all of the sudden, by itself, so I sent it to Nintendo UK for repair. I bought it less than a year ago so it is still on warranty. However, I've just received an email from Nintendo that my gamepad is damaged and repair cost is £85.50. I called them asking why is that and the reply was that the warranty does not cover "defects in the Product that are caused by accidental damage". That's not really fair, is it? If they sell a weak product which stops working by itself after 8 months of usage they should at least repair it for free within a year time... I was always taking a good care of my gamepad, kept it in a case, cleaned it from dust every once in a while etc.
This is the first time I have a direct contact with Nintendo and I've got to say, that's not how you treat your loyal customer... for £85.50 I can almost get a new console, looking back at Tesco clearance deals or buy a used gamepad from CeX for £60...

What's your experience with Nintendo repair? Is it disappointing, like mine, or maybe they repaired your products for free with quick and nice customer service? I really don't know what to do, I might just sell my Wii U with all the games and switch to PS4 now, don't feel like spending £85.50 for a repair. Shame, I was really looking forward to new Zelda, Splatoon and Star Fox!

My experience is they use Yodel to return from them to the customer (Parcelforce from you to them who are much better).

Box was battered a bit on the way back. (This is for a 3DS XL). But what can you do Yodel are Yodel (Hopefully they no longer use them).

They are not super slow or super fast (Or super efficient like Amazon where they just send you another and give you 30 days to send the old one back which is about the best possible).

Did you buy it at a shop? EU laws give you a 2 year warranty and it's the shop that has to honour it, not Nintendo.

My Wii U broke down completely and Nintendo offered to replace it at almost 190 euro. Went back to the shop that sold it to me and they got a free replacement console for me.

I bought it on amazon, does that count? I'll have a look

I would have lost all my digital content and there is not much I could have done about it.

Sent my XL in to get the screen repaired, the thing came back and the bottom face plate messed up, the front prongs where it snaps into the system were busted and all that was keeping it on were the screws, and the side/back prongs. The battery will also occasionally slip out.

oh man, that sounds terrible! Did you pay for it? And did they at least repair the screen?

I just thought I would let you guys know how my story has ended.

So I couldn't win the argument with Nintendo, they kept insisting the gamepad was physically damaged by me (while in reality it stopped working on it's own, I've never dropped it or anything - told them this thousands of times). Also, all their answers were extremely vague - I tried asking them for a detailed list of what exactly needs to be repaired and how much each stage would cost. Somehow I couldn't believe that repairing a USB port in a gamepad is as expensive (or possible even more) than manufacturing a new device. Their answer was something in lines: "Gamepad needs repairing, it would cost £85.50, please send the money now"... That's when I lost my hope with Nintendo Customer Service but still decided to talk with Amazon, just in case, and to my surprise they told me to send the defective system back and I'd get the full refund for it, even if I don't own all the games which were in the bundle anymore!

Really, Nintendo's Customer Service is terrible, they could learn a lot from Amazon (or even other companies!). It's a fight for customers after all. I had an extreme fun with my Wii U and was really looking forward to play new Zelda, Star Fox or Splatoon, but I'll probably use the money from the reund to buy PS4 this time. Somehow the Nintendo Customer Service put me off from their products for a while. Maybe I'll be tempted by a new system though

Sorry for the long post
