Keep in mind if the public knew about his health problems Nintendo's stock would plummet and investors would have forced him to resign.
Unfortunately that is how businesses work.
You're right. This reminds me of when Steve Jobs died and the events leading up to his death. His was more obvious and public but I get why it wasn't advertised. Still this makes me wonder who they'll choose next, whether they go internal or somebody outside nintendo.

@MegaMari0: I would suggest that this isn't the place or time to discuss succession. Nintendo won't pick a permanent 5th president for several months yet, so you'll have plenty of time to discuss.
It's times like this when I wish I could draw and post an artistic tribute.something along the lines of when Mel blanc(voice of bugs bunny, daffy duck, etc) died.

So sad to hear... I will be praying for his family and Nintendo, too. He's done so many great things for Nintendo, helped make so many amazing games, and just brought a lot of joy to people.
He wrote stories, changed gaming , made memes, created my favorite segments ("Iwata Asks"), face offed against Reggie and was hopeful for "NINTENDO's" future. RIP my idol. The story is over.
@Sleepingmudkip: I can imagine stockholders electing, but I wonder how they choose the CEO. President, perhaps from the stockholders, but I would wonder if they were to split the role if potential CEOs would be nominated through other means.
I don't want to come off as insensitive, but this feels like a point where things are really going to change for Nintendo. Nonetheless Iwata was a great man and will never be forgotten.

That is extremely respectful. If that's not, I don't know what is.
Also my friend made some good points.
"yeah. When things looked bad for the company, he took a pay cut instead of firing anyone. He backed his programmers. When they said zelda for WiiU needed more time, he said okay. Any other CEO would have said we need it for E3 or this year, but he believe in his guys that he listened to his guys. Man, when the shareholders wanted him to sellout to mobile, he fought it and said no. Said there was a way to do mobile and still be Nintendo."

He was as honorable as Yamauchi, who refused his pension after he retired.
Nintendo may have changed a lot over the years, but you cannot deny that a lot of Nintendo's important core values were kept in place thanks to Iwata. I know it's debatable, but I believe he knew what people loved about Nintendo, and fought to keep it that way. Thank you, Satoru Iwata, for keeping the dream alive.
Do you think they're still going to do Nintendo Directs? It just won't feel the same without Mr. Iwata presenting them. If they do continue, the first one without him is going to be extremely hard to watch...I do hope Nintendo does something to give proper tribute to such an important figure though.
