That's so funny.

Right up to the point where you realise that people with children and families and mortgages probably just lost their jobs. In a market where journalists looking for work (let alone consumer journalists) are screwed.

hahahahahAHAHAHA so funny rite.

I really don't give a crap what some of you think about the magazine (I couldn't as I never read it), but for the love of the hundreds of Gods out there a bit of respect please.

Edit: just to clarify I'm not having a go at you specifically Mickey. Every time a company goes down people have a good old laugh without realising how inhumane they're being.

Heck, I used to before I realised exactly what happens when a company/ product goes bust.

I thought they said that no one was losing their jobs and that the people who worked on Nintendo Power will be shifted around to one of their other magazines.

Source? If true I retract my statement - celebrate all you like if everyone's getting new jobs at Future and you didn't like the magazine.

@Tasuki: I'm pretty sure I read the same... i mean, it still sucks, but at least they're still assured of a job. it's not like the recent PopCap layoffs or anything

edit: found it — from the article NL quoted:

Ars Technica wrote:

Nintendo Power editors and staffers were told of the magazine's impending shuttering last week, the source said, and are currently being transitioned to work on other Future properties, including GamesRadar and MacLife magazine. The move should not affect Future's other gaming magazines, which include official periodicals for the PlayStation and Xbox brands, as well as Best Buy's @Gamer.

@MickeyMac What did Nintendo Power ever do to you? Maybe no one cares when you lose your job, but you could care when others do. Try it sometime. It's called compassion, it's a kinda nice feeling.

@Tasuki They never said who or how many people would be shifted to other magazines, just that the staff would be. That could be the entire staff, or a handful. Either way, who's to say these jobs are any more secure? I hope so, but everyone seems to think magazines are a dying media.

I've got the body of a taut, pre-teen Swedish boy.

@TBD: Thanks I was just about to do that lol.

@Radixxs: From what it sounded like it was the entire staff. You have to remember Future is the publishing company they arent going out of business the contract for Nintendo Power just ended. So I dont think any jobs are at risk.

That's a relief - though I'm still wondering if there will be jobs for everyone.

Usually in publishing when a publication shuts down some staff (editors, journalists) can be moved to other publications, but other staff (for instance, the art director or subeditor), are made redundant because the other publications only need one of those.

Unless Nintendo Power was already sharing art director resources (ie the same guy/ girl was working on other publications as well).

Then again, they would have said if there were any redundancies at all.

I need to stop thinking.

Future is in dire financial trouble, though, so it can't really afford to have excess staff around.

That's whack man, I'm not gonna care about someone who I will never interact with. Whay you getting all bent outta shape over it anyways? Not like it's your job being lost.

I was about to copy/ paste the Wikipedia entry for "Empathy," but man is that entry long.

Anyway, look it up. It's a useful skill for social interactions.

That's it, break it up, all of you. People are obviously upset and some are even grieving, Mickeymac; this isn't the best time for the tapdancing on potential graves, i'm afraid. Please take it elsewhere.

youngsters won't remember the excitement of getting NP in the post and seeing what was being released, what was planned, tips/cheats. before the 'net, NP ruled. i can recall getting all hyped over the different mario games...the LoZ OoT tidbits that were released over time and teased us. instant gratification wasn't yet an issue: we just waited for the mag and devoured it.

i didn't care for it much after Future Publishing took over, but it's still sad to see it over and done with.

To hear of this a few days ago was, for me, one of those sad moments in life that make you reflect on the past. While I didn't care so much for it after it was turned over to future, this still feels like the loss of a friend. I got that first issue (and lost it, with many more in a tumultuous period of my life), and it was so amazing it somehow solidified me as a life-long, devout gamer. In those days, when I was a kid, I LOOKED FORWARD to getting the mail (unlike today when I have bills and advertising to look forward to). It was exciting waiting to get the newest issue.

In those days long before the Internet, it was especially thrilling to read Pak Watch to find out what new games were forthcoming! And when it came to new SYSTEMS being announced, with accompanying screenshots of things like next generation Mario or Zelda? OH MY GOD! Not sure how to explain it, but somehow that was more fun than finding things out on the Internet. Ah, the days of Nintendo Power and calling Game Counselors for help. The good ole days (well, maybe not for my grandparents with the phone bills they got ). Now, another symbol of those glory days has fallen.

I hope they have the original Nintendo Power logo for the final issue (one of the changes I hated). Rest in peace, old friend.

@Electricmastro
Thank you for posting that AVGN video! I was going to if nobody else had. AVGN=Awesomeness! Boy, there were some real biting, unnecessarily smart ass answers in the Player's Pulse column. A prelude to the Internet, I suppose, LOL. I guess those who answered letters continue to live satisfying lives today as Internet trolls, collection agents, government agency bureaucrats, and politicians!

Now all that's left is Official Nintendo Magazine, but we don't know if that'll survive.

I hope ONM will survive, because even though there's the Internet, I still love a gaming magazine! Well I used to read ONM but switched to Nintendo Gamer about a year ago. Looks like I'll be switching back!
